Hey guys,

I recently landed as a PR and am wondering when I can apply for OHIP. I've heard of a 90 day wait or a 153 day wait. Do you have to be in Ontario for 153 days from the date of landing, or 153/183 days from the date your coverage starts?

Cheers,

Callum

90 day wait and yo can't leave Canada for over a month fr the first 6 months in Ontario and have to be around for 6 months during the year. Coverage all depends on your plans. Are you planning on staying permanently in Ontario? This is all on the OHIP website.

90 days after becoming a physical resident before coverage actually starts. You can apply for it at any time in those 90 days.
To maintain eligibility, you must reside in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately after establishing residency in the province.

Thanks guys, I guess the question I have is do I need to have already been here for those 153 days out of the first 183 before I am eligible? Or can I apply before then and state that I will be here for that number of days during that period?

And yes I intend on staying here for some time.
