Hey guys,

I spent 2 years on a working/holiday visa in Vancouver from Sept 2014 to Sept 2016. I've been interested in gaining a permanent residency status, and one of the pre-requisites that it's requiring of me, is to have had 12 months of full time employment in Canada whilst I was there.

The thing is, I think I've something like 11 months in total (The rest of the time was freelance work, which doesn't fall under full time work). Do you know if that's a very strict pre-requisite, or might they still allow my application?

I know it's all point based and there are other factors, but as it's an arduous process, I would want to know that I can at least get beyond that stage.

Thank you!

The Canadian Experience Class employment stream requires a year of work experience in Canada. Other immigration streams (such as FSW/Express Entry) do not. Note that for CEC, only work experience gained in the last three years counts. So the work experience you gained in 2014 is starting to drop off.

If you have further questions, you should be posted them in the CEC section of the forum.

There are many routes to PR. If the one you're looking at requires a minimum of 12 months work (CEC?), then it requires a minimum of 12 months - the rules are rules, not guidelines. If you don't qualify under that, you can try FSW if your work experience outside Canada is longer.

Thank you for the responses guys.

Does anyone have advice over what is the route that's best to take if I don't opt for the 12 month work experience route?

I find it quite difficult to find out what is the best option.

Thank you
