Hi Members

I recently completed my 1 year PG Diploma course in Alberta and received my 1 year PGWP today (within 2 days of applying). My score including my Canadian studies as of today is 438.

Now, I have got a job and on a payroll in Alberta but since my work permit expires in 1 year, just when my 1 year work experience will complete, what could my CEC steps look like? Assuming I make the cut-off, do I get the ITA just before my permit expires? Will I have enough time to apply or do I need to leave Canada and apply from outside Canada? What are my options?

Thank you in advance.

If you get ITA and are able to submit your complete application before your PGWP expires, you can apply for a bridging open work permit and continue working.

If not, then you would need to apply to change your status to a visitor before your PGWP expires if you want to remain in Canada (you'll needto stop working once your PGWP expires). Or your employer would need to get an approved LMIA so that you can switch to a closed work permit.

None of us can tell you if and when you will get ITA. It will depend on what the cut off for the draw is at the time you get 1 year of work experience.

I’m sorry to hear that you got it approved within 2 days of applying.... maybe you should look at Alberta PNP if you are working in AB

Yeah, looks like that would be my next step... It was showing online that it will take 87 days but got mine processed in just 2 days.

So I already have a Visitor visa. Does that mean I can just continue staying without leaving Canada once? or would i still need to re-enter?

No - you cannot simply stay in Canada without leaving.

Again, as said above, if you want to stay you must apply to change your status to visitor (apply for a visitor record) before your PGWP expires.

Yeah, I feel you. I got it approved in 40ish days last year despite 96 days mentioned on website. Wanted to apply for Ontario masters PNP but failed.... at least you have a job. Good luck on your PR bro!

Hi, if i hold a PGWP and offered a full time job in NOC B, can i get points for this in express entry? (after 1 year).
i think i don't need LMIA?

thanks

You will get points for having the work experience. However you will not get points for having a job offer. To get the 50 job offer points, your employer needs to get the approved LMIA.
