Yup I'm trying to get hold of Aair Canada to ask how are they establishing the approval date.. The IRCC agent said that anyone who can see your file in the system, can see that your approval date is March 12th (in my case).

I asked the IRCC agent repeatedly.. and they said they actually see a date of approval of March 12th 2020 on my file. And if you look at the link I shared in original post, it mentions that "passport request" is sent after application is approved.

yeah I totally agree. Any pattern of approvals I had in mind before just got thrown out of the window. Only thing I'm glad about is that they haven't stopped working on the cases completely. But, yes I do hope they clear the backlog created soon. Fingers crossed!

Just want to point out that this is not May 1st update. This suspension for visitor, study and work visas is an old announcement. The May 1st date that you see applies to the whole page and not just the notice. The same message was there way before May 1st.

current approvals seem to be coming around 6-7 weeks from the time they receive your passport. given covid-19 situation its hard to predict processing time. (I feel like an IRCC agent answering this question). :p

Yes that's correct. Currently the travel restrictions only allow people whose PR was approved before march 18th. Though, I would suggest to wait for your COPR (and check the approval date on that). As well as its expiry date. And hopefully the travel restrictions end soon!

I'm in same situation. If your Visa has grace period you can stay in US after it expires. If this goes beyond your grace period you can covert to B2 visa and still stay in US legally till you can travel to Canada or back home.
