Yes, the webform route works. A few days after the webform is raised, an IRCC representative will send a confirmation email notifying that the change has been recorded. And then, you wait... :)

Thanks! This timeline helps a lot. Does the letter contain the printed SIN card ? Or is it just a printed SIN number that's assigned to you and the card comes later ?

Oh thanks for that insight. Yes, I too think it maybe wise to get a SIN before departing the country as it would atleast make me employable were I to get a job(even if remotely) in Canada in the future.
