What do I need from my friend then?

Hello experts, For sponsorship, what exactly do I need from a friend of mine in Canada? He sent me his past five months bank statements and a simple signed letter of sponsorship, stating that I'm a close friend of him and he is agreed to support me. Is that enough?? TIA

I haven't applied yet and I'm going to apply for "visit- all other type" because there is not a good reason to pay CAD 155 more when spouse won't work in Canada.
