If you were commin to Toronto i would consider that an added advantage. For Ottawa you have made the right choice :-) :P Since it is the Capital, most of the jobs do require English and french knowledge is my guess...or at least gives you a super edge.

For Ottawa, knowing French is 100% advantageous is what i have seen and been told.

Federal Govt - Bilingual preferred Ontario provincial govt jobs - English is more than enough and anyone can score a job not just citizens. Citizens are preferred only for Federal Govt jobs. However in some sectors, basic bilingual is always advantageous.

My wife is taking a once a week class for 3 months i guess. It is beginner only. Hey come on, they need to make more $....it is just cos it is a official language.
