Taxation question: leaving Canada and CRA and Revenue Quebec

Wow, that's nuts; I would imagine they only have one person on duty or somesuch nonsense. The only thing I can think of in terms of mailing address is maybe forward your mail here to a local friend/PO Box that can store and forward it to you as appropriate until you know your permanent address?

Taxation question: leaving Canada and CRA and Revenue Quebec

Not to make light of it, but there's a pretty extensive list of things that need to be done outlined here on the Government of Canada's website. Of particular note is the "departure tax" - the final coup de grace as the door slaps you on the way out. It appears (and I would like others to...

Taxation question: leaving Canada and CRA and Revenue Quebec

As with immigration, I'd stay above board on everything. Once you get your refunds, I'd personally close the accounts - however, there's a spot in the NR73 (the document you need to file to state your intention to emigrate) where they ask you if you plan on maintaining a bank account and if so...

Taxation question: leaving Canada and CRA and Revenue Quebec

I think that, from a 2021 perspective, you'll likely be fine as you're leaving now. 2022 might be more thorny as it appears you'll be maintaining a bank account, which counts towards the "significant ties" clause, although it's not a guarantee. Foreign income may be subject to Canadian taxation...

Anyone from Montreal got online test invite and/or oath ceremony

Hilarious note - I just got my GCMS notes that I requested.. wait for it.. back on OCTOBER 5th, 2021! So, that's what, 4 months and 17 days? Oh, and I was one of the fortunate few to get my citizenship at the end of last year, so... Bravo? It also says that I got my "MP Congratulatory letter"...

Got my certificate BENT! What do I do?

I was very fortunate in that I simply did a walk-in; this was before Omicron. I think they introduced that travel requirement sometime in early January as someone else mentioned doing a walk-in in early Jan and it worked. That said, someone else said that, after the application is received at...

    Canadian Passport in person timeline

Regrettably, it's all appointment only now, last time I checked - I think it changed shortly after the New Year. You can try your luck making an appointment, however - best of luck!

Citizenship test: Collective action required, or expect endless delays, years. Example of the effective lobbyng of people awaiting spousal sponsorship

I'll believe it when I see it, but at least they're acknowledging it.. peanuts for action, but it's (hopefully) at least a start. I'll hold off on the bubbly for now, but will definitely keep a closer eye on this as I have friends going through the digestive tract of immigration as we speak.

    Applying Online or Paper

Digital - 100% in favour of. I did paper back in 2019 and you have to wait for it to arrive, then get accepted, then digitized, etc etc. If you do it online, so many of these steps are skipped or aggregated.

    Canadian Passport in person timeline

Montreal office walkin - Did an unscheduled walkin the 9th of December, paid to have it picked up on the 23rd and it was apparently printed on the 13th, so it likely would have come out as a wash for me, personally. That's interesting, however! I just didn't want to be dependent on one more...

    August 2019 - Citizenship Applicants

What, that going from ideation to production in 6 months is fast? I base that on over 20 year's experience managing various IT and Information Security project portfolios. For large private enterprises, that's extremely fast. For government orgs, it's practically unheard of.

    August 2019 - Citizenship Applicants

They actually moved pretty fast from concept to production with the online testing back in 2020; I think they announced it late Spring and had a prototype online by Autumn; that's stunningly fast for any organisation, let alone a government one. I'm absolutely no government apologist, but I do...

    September 2019 - Citizenship Applicants

Unsure and unknown, but, given your certificate is behind schedule, you might be able to call and make a case for a pickup in your local office (really, they just need to print the danged thing) and, likewise, you might be able to qualify for expedited passport processing. Good luck.

    September 2019 - Citizenship Applicants

If you can get a letter from your boss or HR department stating your requirement for travel, you might be able to qualify to pick it up in person and apply for expedited passport processing. Good luck.

Application for New adult Canadian Passport confusions. Please help

When in doubt, err on the side of caution; you don't want to leave anything to chance when dealing with IRCC. If you're out of the country and have your certificate of citizenship, your best bet might be to file outside the country and wait for the passport. Regarding work history, I'm not sure...

URGENT! Family member detained in Canada, need Visitor visa for family

According to this link, you should apply online. They specifically mention providing care for a critically ill person (which sounds like this could qualify.) Best of luck and hope your family member recovers soon and fully.

Recommendations for a moving company? MTL -> NYC

Hi, everyone, not exactly sure where to file this under, but, due to a tight job market in my field (Senior/Executive Cybersecurity & Risk Management), I may need to move afield for a bit to restock the cash reserves and come back. To that end, I'd likely self-relocate to New York City and look...
