Situation: husband immigrated to Canada last year (July 2020 PR), but we've been advised that it would be a good idea for him to file income tax in Canada for 2020. Yes, he has a SIN, no he hasn't been able to find employment yet (COVID) here in Canada. Yes he has already filed his US taxes...

:confused: So I do have stay at home too - if we decide that the best place would be at my apartment. Question is - which is worse, loss of income or having to pay to stay elsewhere? Things to think about.

We have terrible timing, I know. So, backgrounder: husband got his COPR in February, long before life-as-we-know-it changed. Originally planned to move mid-summer, but plans got bumped up - he got laid off, so has been staying at home except for essentials and it will be a land border crossing...

Hubby received his COPR today... I guess there's really nothing else left to do other than plan to move? but when/where does he apply for his SIN?

I debated for a while about this before sending in the application - but ultimately decided that I trusted him to be on top of all of it. And he has been really good so far. But yeah, individual circumstances will dictate whether or not you do for your application. :)

I see we all have the same level of trust in our husbands to check the right email often enough... (sorry guys). good luck!

Quick question : American citizens only have to submit a photocopy of their passport photo pages and any amendments, right? What do they mean by amendments? also, the self-addressed return envelope - what size are we talking about? #10? One of those huge document envelopes?

That's how it happened for me. He got his first, then the next day I got an email about SA, and the day after that he got a request for medical. So....

If you pay the right of PR fee later, and submit the receipt to that email address, a) do you usually receive a confirmation of receiving information, and b) how long does it usually take? hubby's sorta freaking out that he hasn't heard anything back since paying and emailing the receipt.

Didn't pay RPRF right off the bat, day after bio and medical got sent in hubby gets a sternly worded email saying we have to pay it; what does this mean? At this point nothing? Are we reading too much into this?

If the principal applicant changes jobs before the application is sent in (but everything is signed), what would be the best way to update that information?

Okay, help me out here - is there or is there not a part of a form that asks who the principal applicant is currently living with if you're not living together with the sponsor (spouse)? I could've sworn I saw it somewhere, and now I can't find it.

It is NOT straight forward. It's nuanced to the nth degree with jargon that only experienced will be able to understand. Like the police check/biometrics "check for your country's requirements" .... Anyways, we're all in the same boat, some at different stages than others, but that doesn't mean...

Way too much or too little? I feel there's too little margin for error and yet so many things that *could* be missed.

I'm not sure how this works when your PR application is in process, but we got a lecture about what is needed when you cross as a visitor: sufficient funds in your bank account (proof), a job that you're going back to (or can go back to - a letter saying you're on a leave of absence), medical...

Repeat after me: go slow, read everything carefully, then read again. :/ It's been my mantra as we prep everything.

Huh... so you'll be in Canada as a visitor under implied status? How does this work? I know for MB (cause I moved from ON to MB), you have to prove that you're a resident of MB in order to get covered - ie utlitiy bill, lease, bank statement, but not cell phone bill because it's self-reported...
