USA born baby to Canadian PR parents

Thanks for your reply @headingnorth So, in this case, we'll apply for the kid's PR from within Canada (while we are in Canada), correct? Also, at the Canadian border side, do we just say that the kid will live in Canada as a tourist? Or do CBSA guys expect us to file for the kids' PR...

USA born baby to Canadian PR parents

HI @Y@$h - Did you find an answer to this? Are we allowed to take US born kids (without PR) to Canada, and then apply for their PR from within Canada? If yes, are there any caveats or rules that I should pay special attention to? Thank you

US investment accounts while moving to canada

No, I did not find a broker to move funds from US account to Canadian based brokerage accounts. I am not even sure how will this work, especially considering that USD to CAD conversion would apply. The best way might be to sell your stocks/funds and invest that hard cash in Canadian based...

US investment accounts while moving to canada

I dont know about that. The thing is that every US brokerage account wants an US mailing address on file, to send statements, tax forms etc (I understand all of these are available online too). The only difference between different brokerage accounts is if they'd allow you to maintain an account...

US investment accounts while moving to canada

Actually no. They explicitly said that if I move to Canada (even if I have US address), I will need to close my Robinhood account. They won't allow even maintaining a Robinhood account (forget investing). As I said, Charles and Schwab is a good alternative to Robinhood. They allow maintaining an...

Hi, 3. Yes, HSA Contributions can still be made while being a resident of Canada. Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR) to enter USA

You should check the processing time on IRCC website. If the days listed is more than 9 weeks, then IRCC may not even reply you back. Fyi, i submitted my PR card application on 1st Feb, and received my card on 20th April (~11.5 weeks)

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

How does it work if someone living and working in Detroit and just cross the border to Windsor once a day and come back . are there any implications for residency obligations? Technically (and according to the definition), your working/living model would be counted towards the residency...

Exporting a Vehicle from the U.S. and Importing into Canada: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Oh well, per your comment this form is generated after RIV inspection, right? Canadian Tire gave me this form physically as well (listing the necessary modifications for my vehicle, which was none). But the question was to generate inspection form before doing RIV inspection, which I am still...

Exporting a Vehicle from the U.S. and Importing into Canada: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Honestly, I am not sure what exactly is inspection form. For my RIV inspection, I was asked to show Form 1 and vehicle registration from MI. Like I said, I received a sticker label in mail (after fee payment and RIV Inspection)

Exporting a Vehicle from the U.S. and Importing into Canada: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

When you imported your vehicle, CBSA should have given you Form 1. I think that is what Canadian Tire guys are asking you to get.

Exporting a Vehicle from the U.S. and Importing into Canada: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Typically, Canadian Tire (who does RIV inspection) faxes the Inspection Approval document to RIV directly, after which RIV would send you a 'gray-ish' label to put on vehicle's driver side pillar. I got this label by mail ~2 weeks after RIV inspection. I did my RIV inspection and Safety...

Exporting a Vehicle from the U.S. and Importing into Canada: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Oh, you plan to import now (v/s 2019 when you first became PR)? If yes, then that's no problem. I first landed via border back in 2020. And I officially imported my vehicle now (in 2021).

Exporting a Vehicle from the U.S. and Importing into Canada: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

I dont think there are rules that govern 'when should you officially import the vehicle'. However, keep in mind that you will need to give a solid reason as to why wouldn't you want to import your vehicle when you first cross the border.

Exporting a Vehicle from the U.S. and Importing into Canada: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Wait, what do you mean by 'Self-Importing'? Once you get your vehicle at the Canadian border, CBSA guys will do all the formalities and give you Form1 (meaning the vehicle is legally imported)

Exporting a Vehicle from the U.S. and Importing into Canada: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

I meant the deadline to register the vehicle after importing into Canada (once you receive Form 1) has been extended. I dont think there is deadline to 'move' the vehicle listed in goods list. Do you plan to travel between US and Canada regularly for work? If yes, not importing the car (i.e...

Exporting a Vehicle from the U.S. and Importing into Canada: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

The only change that I know of is that the deadline for everything has been extended indefinitely (atleast for the vehicle registration in Canada).

    H1B visa appointment availability

I am also in similar situation (although I have managed to schedule my interview in October 2021). I currently use AVR to go to MI for work on as need basis. My initial thought was the availability of AVR will mean that they would not qualify me as someone who needs emergency appointment, right?

US investment accounts while moving to canada

Hi @gtgy2k1 I am looking at my investments / cash from the perspective of 4 different categories 1. Cash in Checking/Savings Account - These accounts are okay to have in USA 2. Company sponsored 401k / retirement account - This also seems to be okay to maintain. 3. HSA Account - I am still...
