Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

I don't say this to discourage you but just to be honest. I suspect you're screwed and would investigate cancelling the trip. I would be suprised if there was anything you could do at this point to fix it - you can call and wait on the line, but I doubt you're going to have any success. Sorry.

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

This is an exaggeration. We literally just finished the process, mailing on Feb 28 and receiving the passport&certificate back on March 30. There's certainly some risk in mailing it but I think saying "NEVER" do it is overstating the risk.

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

I understand all this and I have sympathy. I went through it twice for my son (a renewal) and my wife (a new citizen) in the past couple months and it feels like a big black box. My best advice with everyone is to really take time doing the application correctly - in both cases with ours, it was...

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

Pre-pandemic the process was much faster in Canada as well; you would go in, show all your documents, hand in your pictures, and get it approved. You'd then come back the next day to pick up the printed passport. I don't know your home country but maybe it's not as simple now as it was in the...

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

This is a completely normal timeline. Generally, after your CC is charged, you'll get the passport around 3 weeks later assuming no issues. If you were charged on March 16, I wouldn't get concerned until around April 10 that there's an issue. It's likely not worth calling before then because...

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

There's no updated tracker but based on many reports in this thread, this timeline is pretty standard if there's no issues with your application: Mail it day 0 Delivered by day 4 CC charged by day 20 Passport received by day 40

My personal preference would be in person just because you avoid the risk of any mistakes or missing documents. Both should be fine in general however.

What do they say when you call the 1-800 number? Four months is well beyond the expected timelines.

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

Should be fine still. I wouldn't start worrying until at least 20 days after the delivery date. By day 30, I'd be calling.

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

It's always possible but it's relatively unusual. The passport application isn't exactly rocket scientist compared to PR or citizenship, so they will usually not have any additional requests unless you've messed something up.

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

Generally most standard applications are falling in these timelines: Application Sent day 0 Delivered by day 4 CC charged by day 20 New passport arrives by day 40

You've made your feelings on this quite clear. Here's what I see: They (like everyone) were thrust into a situation that no one ever anticipated. Because of the security and responsibility involved in granting citizenships and issuing passports, they couldn't just "sort of figure it out" like...

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

An earlier commenter mentioned - your documents they just have to look at, then they're complete and can be sent back. Your actual passport takes a couple more days to be printed so it gets sent separately.

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

It might be the case that when they receive an existing passport in the application, they can approve more quickly just because it's clear the person has had their identity & citizenship verified previously. I would always kind of expect when you apply for your first passport (whether as a born...

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

I don't think it would be that useful; basically, for people who have the process go without issues, it's pretty consistent right now: Sent day 0 Delivered by day 4 CC charged by day 20 New passport arrives by day 40 If it doesn't follow that timeline, it's pretty much random how long it...

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

I think you misunderstand - they want to reserve these appointments for people going to things like weddings and funerals. They aren't for people who are just like "I need go to down to Cabo for a week on vacation".

Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

When I first was trying to figure a way to get an in person appointment, I got the call from them, and the impression I got was that they don't expect this to be used just because you feel like travelling; it's for stuff like "I have to travel for a funeral or a wedding or unmissable business...
