Although your PR card might have expired, you’re still a PR. You only need the card if you’re travelling out. I don’t believe you need it as a part of the citizenship process. It means you are a temporary resident until a decision is made about your permanent resident application. With your bridging work permit, you can continue to work etc and remain in Canada.

When I applied, I also had a gap period when I was on implied status waiting for my new work permit and also waiting for my PR. I reported the gap and stated I was physically in Canada on implied status as a temporary resident while awaiting the decision. They know what it is.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but your PR CARD is not classed as a travel document. You do not need to include it with your application for citizenship. As per the guide, you can’t even use it as a personal identification document.

They will automatically cancel it once the system figures it out. However, in my case I sent a request asking for the BOWP to be cancelled and my money refunded as it’s no longer needed due to me now having PR.
