    PPR to COPR timeline

No, it'll be valid for a while. The expiry date will be indicated on your CoPR. Mine was valid for 8 months.

    PPR to COPR timeline

Hi. In my specific case, everything was finalize by IRCC in 6 business days and my passport and documents were sent back in 2 business days (or 8 and 12 days, respectively, including weekends inbetween). Upon landing, they would tell you that you will receive your PR card in within 90 days, I...

Thanks! I did want it to be informative, but wasn't really sure if people actually check timelines in the signature.

Anyone applied a Student Permit from Philippines?

Oh okay. He/she might still need proof of financial capacity when he enters the country though. That might be asked when he lands. So better not give back the money right away or make sure you have enough money and provide an updated proof of finances when they ask (but they probably won't). If...

Anyone applied a Student Permit from Philippines?

Makes sense. Verify with your department though before you apply just to be sure and you don't waste any time, effort, and money if you don't have to. If you do need the permit, maybe you can apply for it later on right before your co-op term?

Anyone applied a Student Permit from Philippines?

You investing in a GIC? From my understanding, your money stays in the GIC for a fixed period of time (you can't withdraw it during that time). https://startright.scotiabank.com/student-gic.html

Anyone applied a Student Permit from Philippines?

Hi, if your study program requires a co-op/internship term/s, I don't think you'll need a separate work permit. Technically, you are allowed to work legally anywhere in the city under a study permit (but for only up to 20 hours a week for students). You can also talk to your university...

Anyone applied a Student Permit from Philippines?

It is indeed better to rent outside university (university housing is a rop off), but the west side is a bit far, in my opinion. Well, I guess it depends on how far west. I always think about the west edmonton mall area when someone says they live on the west side. There's a couple direct buses...

Anyone applied a Student Permit from Philippines?

Nah... it's not that bad. Plus you'll get used to it. And I don't think Edmonton has the harshest winter, that's a myth (hello Winnipeg! LOL). Based on my experience at least. Edmonton winters are nice, and the weather is dry, so the cold, if it's not too windy, is pretty manageable. I walked to...

Anyone applied a Student Permit from Philippines?

Great program! I'm excited for you. Feel free to send me a private message if you need help with anything or just have general questions/concerns about the UofA, grad school life (at the UofA and in general), and living in Edmonton. Good luck!

Great university. You'll love it here! I did my PhD in Biosci here at the UofA! Masters in what?

Anyone applied a Student Permit from Philippines?

Hi. She/he may have submitted a passport that will expire next year? Canada doesn't give documents with expiry dates past the passport expiration date (unlike the US). He can renew next year. :)

Track your PR card timeline and processing times here

It'll be delivered just by regular mail, no signature required. Hopefully you're not traveling outside of Canada? If so, you can only get back to Canada without a PR card if you enter through a land border crossing in a private vehicle (CoPR is not a valid travel document). I think the...

If my point is above cut off

Ah cool. Well good luck on your application! And let me know if you have other questions. I'm pretty new to the process so everything is still fresh for me. :)

If my point is above cut off

So you haven't created a profile yet? If I recall correctly, WES credential evaluation and IELTS scores are required as you need the specific document numbers from those to create your profile. Is this 460 score just an estimate then?

If my point is above cut off

Not necessarily. The cutoff varies from draw to draw. But you'll likely have a chance based on previous numbers. I expect there should be a next draw in the next few days before the month ends. Good luck!

    Financial Support for Student Visa

Makes sense. I find it does take time to gather enough points. I moved here in 2012 for my PhD, first applied in 2014 (while I was still a student) and didn't get enough points (like 440 or less). So I decided to wait a few more years to re-apply until I was sure I had enough points since it is...
