I just heard from someone that starting December 2011, there will be no more need to send in passports. Meaning Immigration will just send the Visa to the applicant if/once they are finished. Is this true?

My application was received by CIC on October 6 and it says on the website they are processing ones received on October 6 right now. But CAS wont show my status. What do we do with the generic application barcodes? I printed my forms out and it came with a bunch of barcodes. Do we do anything with them or leave it as it is?
