    Applicants from Europe and USA

I second the recommendation to get GCMS notes. When my application was taking longer than usual in summer 2018, the GCMS notes allowed me to see the reason it had been flagged for review. I sent a letter of explanation through a web form, and my application was approved soon afterwords. I used...

    1. It's a good idea to get your SIN during the soft landing. We needed ours to open a Canadian bank account, which you'll probably want to do during your soft landing so that you can start transferring funds to Canada ahead of your move. In addition to getting your SIN and opening a Canadian...

I'm also FSW. My husband and I considered Toronto, but decided that we preferred Halifax. Proximity to beaches and a smaller, more affordable city were big factors in our decision. We are both still looking for full-time jobs in our fields, (we moved in mid-December) but as a teacher I was able...

    Soft Landing Questions

In addition to the list of goods accompanying you, you should bring a list of goods to follow: any possessions that you might want to bring or have shipped to you later after your final move to Canada. I used spreadsheets for the lists of goods, as did many other people on the forums. You will...

Advice, sponsoring husband, what do we need to move with our 3 year old

Since US citizens don't require a visa to visit Canada, I believe you should be able to bring her as a visitor with just her passport, though it is a good idea to travel with her birth certificate as well, in case anyone asks for it. If you are traveling without her other parent, you'll need to...

    Buying Jackets for Canada

Where I've lived in the NY and DC areas in the US we usually get some winter days that go down to about - 6 C and occasionally get very cold days that go down to about -15 C, so I've already gotten myself some good winter clothes. When you get to Canada, really check for the warmth ratings and...

Does anyone have any recommendations for moving companies to use to move belongings from the US to Canada? Some friends of ours used U-Pack, but unfortunately U-Pack doesn't do moves to Nova Scotia.

    TD Bank -Cross border Account

I just successfully sent my first cross-border transfer yesterday. Once you have your US TD Bank and TD Canada Trust accounts set up, you call the cross-border banking number: 1-877-700-2913, and request to make a transfer. You can choose whether to send the money directly from your US TD Bank...

Hello Everyone, My family just returned from our soft landing in Halifax. We landed, had our goods accompanying and goods to follow lists stamps, got SIN numbers at Services Canada the next business day, since the airport in Halifax does not have that service, set up a Canadian bank account...

Hi Everyone, My family and I just landed in Halifax at around 1 am on Sunday after a delayed flight. Everything went smoothly, and I didn't get asked many questions. The immigration agent did express some concern about the possibility of PR cards getting lost in the mail if we had them sent to a...

List of Goods to Follow - Artwork

Hello, I'm working on preparing my list of goods to follow to prepare for my soft landing in two weeks. I'm an art teacher and I also create my own paintings and drawings. I'm going to be bringing a lot of artwork that I created myself and I am wondering how detailed I need to be in describing...

My MFA is not recognized at all in my ECA from IQAS because it was accredited by the New York Board of Regents, (which is a unique national accrediting body) instead of a regional accrediting body, which is the standard that IQAS uses in assessing degrees. I didn't bother trying to appeal and...

Hi everyone, I'm preparing to do a soft landing in Halifax next month, working on the list of goods to follow. For those of you who have already landed, how detailed did you get on the spreadsheet. I want to make sure I'm doing this correctly.

When I ordered GCMS notes I saw that my application had been marked "review required," because of my "broken-up work history" Someone had written that it appeared that I had been continuously employed, but my letter of employment showed 4 periods of 11 months of work. I'm a teacher, so my...

My application was marked "review required" in January and I finally got PPR on Sept 5, shortly after I received acknowledgment of a CSE that I sent that explained the issue that required review.

Finally got PPR after 8 long months. :) After my experience, I would really recommend ordering GCMS notes if several months have passed and you haven't seen any updates on your application. After getting my notes I saw that my application had been flagged for review because my employment history...

I agree that Fedex is best. I've used both Fedex and UPS to ship paintings to exhibits in Canada this summer. Fedex charged less than UPS and generally seemed to be better informed about how to send things to Canada.
