    Urgent help

I landed in Canada in December last year. The whole process from sending off application to receiving the COPR took about 8 months.

    Urgent help

Don't worry, mine frequently said 'not applicable' after I had sent in required docs. It's just a not very helpful update on the online system that doesn't tell you anything!

Which is Better INDIA or CANADA

d_carlos makes an excellent series of points. It is very much worth considering things beyond the financial - the type of society you want to live in and the things you will gain even while the short-term financial situation might be a difficult transition. Particularly if you have a daughter...

    Landing experience

Thanks for your replies! I'm British, so it can't be nationality - poss airport or the mood of the official on the day!? Friend of mine had similarly stressful experience crossing via land border, tiny baby in tow.

    PR card 2018 timelines

Hi all, sorry if this is a stupid question but how do you link your PR card to your GCKey when you don't have the card yet? All that happened when I landed was the guy stamped my COPR and told me to look out for the card in the post... should I have a new number or something? Thanks

    Landing experience

I received my COPR in May 2018 and in November officially landed as a Permanent Resident in Vancouver. Hurrah! It will happen to you too!! I meant to write this post about my landing experience for a while in the hope that it will help others after me. My fiance and I arrived around 8pm after...

Hi Kishaloy Paul, when I got the email notification that I had a message in my account I signed in and found that it says 'we are processing your background check'. I don't know when that changed from 'we will let you know when we start your bgc' as I haven't been signing in every day. But this...

Good news for me today, I have received a request from Singapore to send them a copy of my passport and some photos to complete my application. (I am British, so not required to send off the passport). I also have to choose how I would like to receive my COPR letter, which they will send me on...

    Starting the process soon--from Colombia

Just relaying what we were told by immig lawyer (who incidentally now works for CIC). We wanted to avoid needing an interview and make it as straightforward as poss.

    Starting the process soon--from Colombia

I agree with the above. For these purposes common-law and married are in the same category. An immigration lawyer friend actually advised us not to marry just before sending off the application, because it would possibly raise an eyebrow as being a deliberate ploy just for the PR. (That would be...

Hurray! I have just received my pre-arrival services letter. Maybe I shouldn't get too excited, because GCkey still says bgc not yet started.. but it feels like progress!! :)

I am in a similar boat. Medical was passed 17th March. Since then GCKEY still says 'we will let you know when we start your bgc', no change. On the ECAS it has said 'decision made' for about a month (not sure because I didn't check that one regularly).

I have 'Decision Made' on my sponsor's ECAS now - is that where it usually shows up? I have only been regularly checking my GCkey so might have been that way for a while. Nothing new on GCkey - still says I'll be notified when BGC starts...

Proof of ending previous common-law relationship

"The checklist The specificity comes in when you choose in the selection box where you are from and where you are residing http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp?_ga=2.101617154.2088511996.1521468908-2066948307.1511489363. There are country-specific requirements, in...

Proof of ending previous common-law relationship

You'll only have needed to do a declaration/give proof if you were asked to on your checklist. There isn't a generic Checklist, it is specific to your case, based on where you say you are from, where you are living, etc...

Ugh I really hope I am not required to give another police cert, I had a very difficult time getting it the first time (here it takes 2 months minimum so I had to do a lot of begging and pulling in favours to get it expedited!) Any idea why they'd need another?

    Spousal Sponsorship

I can't see that it would be a problem as long as the name on the passport and police certificate matches the name on the forms. Lots of people don't change their name after marriage, so their name in the passport is their pre-marriage one. Just make sure they all match up. Alternatively...

    Suggestions? - Police Check - Colombia/Ecuador 2017

You're welcome :) I didn't get either of mine notarized but it wouldn't be a bad idea, particularly if you can take care of that while waiting for the official request from CIC. And yes - police certs have to be translated into English or French. It might be worth asking if you can get them done...

    Suggestions? - Police Check - Colombia/Ecuador 2017

Note you may also have to provide a police cert from Ecuador too, since that's where you currently live. That looks to be an online application that you can do without needing the request first.
