I think it is okay to send the photos from anywhere provided they are as per the specifications. Photographer stamp on rear of photo is must in one of the two photos. Do follow the specifications closely to avoid any further hassles.

I had my dependents application with same status. But my application showed "additional documents have been updated", which was the status the day I received the photo request. It even shows the same status after the application changed to "Approved" from "Submittet" I think what's important is...

Congratulations on receiving your COPR! It's not a standard procedure to ask for photos. The photos on COPR are the ones that is used for making the PR cards. But in some cases like, the photos are rejected due to not as per standard issue. And the applicant is asked to submit new photos (2)...

You have to link your PR card application to your Mycic account. It'll show the status there for the same.

That's correct. You can travel to US via road in private vehicle with US Visa and can re enter Canada with your passport and COPR. Though it's clearly written on COPR that's it's not for travel. But when you travel via road to and fro from US, immigration officials accept the COPR for re entry...
