We landed last week at Aldergrove POE, north of Bellingham. We drove a U-Haul and imported two vehicles. We had a Goods to accompany list plus some wine/liquor and a list of new items that were not designated settler's goods and we expected to pay duty on, and our pets. We had exported the...

Temporary car insurance for settlers in BC

I was just informed that our insurer (GEICO) will not extend our coverage temporarily once we land in Canada. Any recommendations for temporary coverage in BC until we get our vehicle licenced/insured, or who to stay away from? Many thanks!

Totally agree. I've had more than enough of the twisted American definition of "freedom."

I think that's probably the distinction. The document from BC Ministry of Health encouraged going out for a run or bike ride and referred to the Quarantine Act, but also mentioned self-isolation. Also it was from May, so they might have become more strict since then.

Is there a link to this document? I’m trying to confirm the language saying we “can’t leave the place of quarantine for any reason” when I’ve seen other directives saying it’s ok to go for walks as long as 2m distance is maintained.

Declaring new, unused goods when landing

I have a question about declaring goods that don't qualify as having been "owned, possessed and used" and therefore duty free under the settler's exemption. We will have some items purchased in the US shortly before landing, and while they qualify as owned they will be in original packaging and...

We got ours at the end of 2019. We had always planned to land this summer, so covid didn't change our timeline much.

My spouse and I received CoPR valid through November 2020 and are scheduled to land in BC August 17, by land crossing. We are driving a one-way U-Haul with all our goods and importing two vehicles. Thanks for creating this thread.

Importing Car Older Than 15 Years

If the vehicle is exempt from RIV, why does the RIV online form have a checkbox on the first page for "exempt" and the reason "over 15 years old" and then prompt you to complete the rest of the form/upload documents/pay the fee? What's the point of this if it's exempt? Do I need to get a recall...

Landed PR and returned to US without quarantine using AVR

So as US citizens we could do this also? They will allow a soft landing and immediate return to US? Then, having presumably used your CoPR exemption from travel restrictions, when do you plan to move permanently? Did they tell you anything about physically moving being an essential reason?

Importing a vehicle over 15 years old

I'm planning on importing my 2004 Ford Ranger because I like it, it's in good condition and I don't want the hassle of selling it and then replacing it in Canada. I know it's not subject to regulation by RIV, but is there any reason in particular that it wouldn't be admissible? This is what I...

Complete driver's abstract for BC license

Thank you. I will have just over 2 years on my WA license, so if that's good enough for BC it's good enough for me.

Has anyone attempted U-haul crossing at the border since closure?

Someone on another thread said a CBSA officer told them they couldn't even return the U-Haul once they unload at their destination, they needed to arrange for someone to do it for them.

    Moving during COVID-19, potential dates

Were you able to speak with an agent at the port of entry you will be using? I wonder if it would be a good idea to contact them to let them know when we're landing since we will have a U-Haul, two vehicles to import, pets, etc. We have a good quarantine plan in place (utilities on, someone to...
