Calgary - Alberta Settlers, Let's Network here

Anyone managed to secure an engineering job in the oil and gas industry over in Alberta? Care to share your experience in your job hunt? Things are grim all over the globe for those in the black gold business, but I'm hoping things will ramp up a little in the next 2 - 3 years.

CRS score 440-450 ONLY - connect

Hard to say until OINP makes an official announcement. From a logical perspective, I believe they will increase the cut-off scores due to the fact that recent ITAs have CRS cut-offs above 480, coupled with a high number of applicants in the 400 - 470 pool. However, I doubt they will raise the...

People planning to apply for OINP

I'm hoping so too. An increase in cut-off scores is very much plausible, considering the amount of candidates sitting between 400 and 450, but I doubt they'll increase it all the way to 450 as the lowest ITA scores were 452 just last year. Anyway, all these are just speculation until OINP comes...

CRS score 440-450 ONLY - connect

If you're confident in improving your IELTS scores (which is very much possible), I believe you should go for it. Additional points does go a long way, especially if it gets you into the CRS 460+ category which gives you a shot at ITA. PNP is a more realistic option for anything below 460.

    Funds required for OINP

Fixed deposits are fine as long as they can be withdrawn anytime. The key here is unencumbered funds, which means money that is readily available (fixed deposits, shares, savings etc.). Properties such as houses and cars cannot be used as they cannot be readily translated into cash.

CRS score 440-450 ONLY - connect

CRS 441 reporting in! I'm unable to increase my points any further unless I take up French and get another certificate or master's. Scored max points under age group and IELTS, with a bachelor's degree under my belt. I'll be vying for OINP in November. Fingers crossed that the OINP cut-off CRS...
