They started processing my file Aug 2. Also, I sent them an address update last week, I don't know if that brought attention to my file.

You cannot use AVR unless you have your actual H1B document in hand. I had the same situation and I had to pay the $1,000 to fast track my H1B renewal.

I just wanted to mention that we arrived in Alberta two weeks ago. I am still waiting for my passport request, but I got a job in Calgary, so AINP issued a letter of support, and I was able to get a work permit (my husband also got open work permit). I am not sure what I can add to everything...

I am returning to the US using AVR tomorrow. I have my H1B document, old visa stamp and I-94. My office also issued a job verification letter to me, and asked me to print copies of my last 3 pay stubs, just in case.

ChaloCanada, Thanks for the details. Why is your family on a visitor's visa? Did your wife not qualify for an open work permit? Also is there no dependent visa for children? I need to put my daughter in school when I get to Calgary, and I don't think I can do that on a visitor's visa.

Actually, the employer did not ask about my work authorization, and I did not volunteer the information until after the interview. I have a friend in Calgary who opened up her house to me, so I got a visitor's visa and spent time in Calgary to attend interviews. I also used her address on my resume.
