I applied on 20 July, the CIC mentioning 9 days as processing time, so far 42 and no news and they are also holding my passport since then.

It totally depends on your nationality, I'm an Iraqi and I have B1 and I can not visit Canada, you can find a list of countries with this privilege at CIC ;)
