Is this a new thing to take in your passport and be interviewed ??? What is the interview like if any one can shed some light

Hey Everyone i am new here my wife have filed for me and the process has been going good, i received a call to take in my passport and to do an interview, have anyone done an interview before leaving for canada and if so what was it like and why would they interview someone and not interview a next.
