What if one is short of few months/days, he/she will loose permanent residency status or will just be given a warning?

Is it mandatory that a PR should have lived 730 days in Canada in every five years when he returns from vacation while the PR card still valid for 2 years?

While on the subject, I have a question, when a PR entering Canada after long vacation, one should have lived 730 days in Canada from the date of entry to last five years. Is that mandatory or simple PR is valid for 2-3 years enough? Appreciate senior could clarify this. Thanks
