I have been told that CIC does it on its own and only when you have similar name/date of birth to someone else, they will request you to send RCMP criminal record check.

Application received on June 09, 2015. Acknowledgement of receipt on Sept 01, 2015 Request of Certificate of criminal record check (RCMP) on November 9, 2015 Medical Request on January 22, 2016 Passport request on March 2, 2016

Don't worry. In my case it took 3 weeks to have my timeline updated with medical received from the result was sent to them, but sometimes it could take longer than that. I think that if the clinic confirmed to you that they sent the result last Friday, you can be sure that they did so. Anyway...
