John, congratulations. I haven't been checking the site recently but I was glad to see your situation is almost complete. I'd been following your situation. Parabens!

Does he live in Brazil, and does he have a Brazilian passport? If so, he should almost certainly apply outland as a Brazilian. The fact that he also holds Portuguese citizenship is largely irrelevant. He will be asked to list what citizenships he holds on the application, so he'll just provide...

    Sao Paulo VO 2011

Transferring Brazilian reals to Canadian dollars is a huge challenge. Brazil doesn't like to let it's currency out of the country, so there are tons of taxes and other roadblocks/limitations. That, and the bureaucracy, are the two things that I can sometimes find frustrating about Brazil. You...

Are you sure about this? From what I've understood, they don't change either status to "Decision Made" unless there has been a decision made about the PR application. In this case, the OP applied in January, so a decision about sponsorship would have been made within a couple of months after...

    submitting additional photos

My wife (the principal applicant) got her photos taken before the application was sent it. When I saw them, a day before we were scheduled to submit the application, I rolled my eyes. The photos clearly did not meet the specifications. They weren't the right size and her head was the wrong...

Yes, but I would not count on this. Our passport request came earlier than expected. Other cases I know of took longer. One person I know got her DM two months easlier than other person who filed on the same day. I don't know why some take longer than others, and the SP office can get very busy...

    Sao Paulo VO 2011

Uh, no. The Sao Paulo office is too inconsistent to make this kind of prediction. Some people are getting about 4 months between SA and DM, others are taking longer. It's not clear why this is the case, but it's best not to set expectations like this.

I know it's natural to be anxious, but in fact you have absolutely nothing to worry about. If your husband's application was received in Sao Paulo in the middle of April, that means you should expect to wait until about the middle of October for completion. The fact that they asked you for PCCs...

Outland - Sao Paulo Applications 2015/2016

Unfortunately, the durations aren't very consistent. CIC is reporting a 9-month turnaround time, including sponsorship evaluation. I don't know anyone that's gone much past this. For our, the entire duration of our application, from receipt of the application through to landing, was 6 months and...

Yes, it's Date of Birth. You can also use the case-specific enquiry form to communicate with the VO. It's on the CIC website. I would include scans of the new passport. For sure they will need this. Also, I lost my passport once and I seem to recall having to sign a declaration of some sort...

    travel without PR card

To be clear, I don't think there was much doubt that the airline would allow him to board the plane. It's a non-issue. He has a passport from a visa-exempt country. That's all the airline cares about. If he doesn't have this, or a visa, or a Canadian passport, he would automatically be denied...

You're both very welcome. I've received lots of help from other board members over the last year, so it's no big deal to pass along my experience whenever I can. ;D

Entering Canada while waiting for PR

When arriving in Canada, I would avoid any suggestion that you intend to "reside" here. Before becoming a permanent resident, you are allowed in only as a visitor. This means that the immigration officer will need to be convinced that for the time being you intend to return to your home country...

    Sao Paulo VO 2011

This is not a bad sign, really. It means they have your application and are working on it. If they received your PCC and haven't complained about anything else, that's also good. Generally no news is good news when it comes to CIC.

    Sao Paulo VO 2011

If she's the sponsor and he's the principal applicant, they only need his information. The email they send around is confusing. "Please provide two (2) recent photographs of yourself, your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children (if applicable)." The "if applicable" part means if the...

    Sao Paulo VO 2011

I'm assuming your husband is the principal applicant and you are the sponsor (and not immigrating/accompanying him from Brazil). The wording in the CIC email is a little confusing. My wife's email said they were expecting the passport and photo of "yourself, your spouse or common-law partner and...

    Sao Paulo VO 2011

You could send it to Ottawa if you wanted. My wife's passport took approximately 7 business days, plus shipping time (which was 2 days each way). The problem is that, if there's a Canada Post strike or lockout while your passport is on the way to them or on the way back from them, the passport...

Need to send Passport to ottawa, worried about impending canada post strike

That's really regrettable, but it's nice to know they appear to be aware of the situation. It's strange that they aren't tracking these and that they haven't arrived yet. Keep us posted.

Need to send Passport to ottawa, worried about impending canada post strike

What type of envelope did you send them? ExpressPost? If that's the case, the woman is mistaken. Not only would the tracking number have been activated by now, ExpressPost is guaranteed 2-day service. So you should have received the passport two days ago.
