Maybe you should use internet explorer or mozilla firefox in opening your email and attachment. I remember I was having trouble opening the attachment sent by CEM too. Just try this. If still having trouble, email them :)

Per Toffboss, according to what he learned from PDOS 1) you can request an extension from DFA or 2) you can apply for renewal of passport, you can still use the visa from your old passport. Better yet, go to DFA Satellite offices near you :)
