401K, US Stocks and US Bank Accounts

No need to liquidate stocks! Just open an online brokerage in Canada ( I use interactive brokers canada) and ask them to do an ACATS transfer from your US brokerage. All your stocks will move to Canadian broker and you can keep them. You can also buy US stocks via Canadian brokers. As for 401k...

Toward Understanding Bill C-6 to Amend Citizenship Act; new 3/5 rule plus

Nasty people who presume guilt until proven otherwise, the very opposite of a liberal democracy. Most such people just hate immigrants, dont want them coming in to the country, but once they do, don't want them going out! They just hate the fact that some 3rd world people might enjoy the...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Cons have ensured they will not get the votes of new citizens. Their contempt for immigrants can be clearly seen.

A lawyer cannot increase your points for you. Canada is not like US where a good lawyer makes a difference. You either have enough points or you don't. If you want more points, score more in IELTS next time.

Hot news-Pre-clearance bill would give U.S. border agents in Canada new powers

I will rather have a 1000 'scam bags' enter rather than 1 innocent person denied entry because their previous entry was not recorded correctly or some other goof up by the government. If you don't believe in innocence until proven guilty, maybe you should move to a dictatorship.

Trump and NAFTA(Trump begins Renegotiating NAFTA)

You are right, its mostly because of Mexico. Also, if NAFTA is cancelled, CUSFTA automatically comes into effect, which also has a TN visa like thing between US and Canada. So, Trump would first need to cancel NAFTA, then cancel CUSFTA. But conservatives have been known to cut off their nose to...

Trump and NAFTA(Trump begins Renegotiating NAFTA)

Logic doesn't apply. On the one hand, people complain about too much immigration lowering wages due to higher labor supply. On the other, they are frustrated that people leave Canada to work in the US, even though that lowers labor supply. Conservatives are just angry people who need to find...

Trump and NAFTA(Trump begins Renegotiating NAFTA)

I can answer that from the xenophobe point of view. According the xenophobes, the Canadians (well, maybe not the 'proper' native born ones) are stealing American jobs. Basically, because a Canadian is working in the US, a corresponding American is jobless and out on the street. If the Canadian...

    New CIC Minister

Welcome to the internet, where its obvious that by default, the most qualified person is an old straight white male and everyone else has a job only because of 'diversity' reasons.

Trump and NAFTA(Trump begins Renegotiating NAFTA)

Exactly, wages will be further reduced in Canada and I suspect the Loonie will fall further (lower remittances). I find it funny how Canadian Conservatives seem to be happy with this, considering how they look at the labor market as a zero sum game (more people, less wages).

I have applied for my canadian PR but my husband is on H1-B

I guess he has to apply independently for PR or try to find a job and get work permit. He could also apply for education in Canada, following which he can get Work permit. There are some 1 yr masters courses.

ALL H-1B HOLDERS IN U.S. LET'S CONNECT HERE WHO WANTS CANADIAN PR/CITIZENSHIP

For retirement accounts, I plan to liquidate them a year after I move out of US. So that will be my only US income and I expect the tax hit to be low apart from the 10% penalty. But thats only if I am required to liquidate them. I will keep them if I can as US and US dollars are a good...

    Moving from USA(H1B) to Canada(PR)

For one, its a parliamentary system. People don't directly elect the Prime Minister. One Trump can get elected by chance, but for a Trump like PM, there need to be a lot of rogue MPs. Of course, that didn't stop the UK crackdown on immigration, but that was a slow process, so there should be...

Suggestion please: Canada or India (Imp)

maybe because she first asked for advice and when offered some, started arguing in a condescending manner. I am glad she is going back to India, her attitude wont go far in a 1st world country.
