It's the validity of the visa. You will have to use the visa before it expires i.e. you may enter into Canada with the validity period.

Offer letter or annual revision letter should suffice and I did the same, however letter from employer stating the purpose of visit and approval of leave whould be stronger support document.

I got it after 14 days last year from Detroit center. According to website, for NY center the processing time is 20 days. So, hopefully you will receive it soon. I hope you have enclosed return express mail envelop to get it soon.

I don't think you will be asked to bring $$$$ to Canada while applying for visa. You will need to provide financial support documents like bank statement or income, etc.

I presume you have sent your application through mail, in that case you will be receiving by mail in the prepaid return envelope unless there is no necessary for a phone call.
