Welcome to Canada :) My wife landed in November, but before that I spend hours and hours on this forum page. I got so used to visiting the page on a daily basis, that 5/6 months later and I still visit at least once or twice a week. It's great to share our experiences with the new applicants...

I typed this for someone else about a month ago, so just copy and pasting it for your benefit: "So my wife arrived in Canada last November and i was accompanying her. This was our experience. Initially they told us on the plane to fill out one declaration card since we will be living in...

Oh okay... the medical is typically valid for 1 year, but the visa's were up to 6 months or when the medical expired... whichever came first. Things must have changed this year. :)

The visa is typically valid for 6 months. So just be careful of the dates and make sure you follow what's on the visa stamp.

With no lineup it took maybe 20 minutes.... I did ask a ton of questions... so probably it is 15-20 minutes long.

    1) Does your little one have a Canadian Passport? If so, I don't think they will require it... though to be in the safe side... you also provide that for reference purposes. 2) I wouldn't trust regular mail, if my life depended on it. I would make sure I have confirmation of delivery and...

Isn't that the best feeling? The screen all of a sudden looks completely different from the routine status you logon and stare at every single day. I'm sure you will hear good news in the next week or so re the decision and next steps. :)

Correct... Health card can't be used until the 3 months is up. SIN number was very easy... you get it in minutes. Just walk into any Service Canada office and show your passport and COPR and they will give you a piece of paper with your number on it. They don't issue cards anymore.

Well health card comes between 4-6 weeks after you apply for it. So you can apply on day 1 or day 90.....it will vary when you actually receive the Health Card.

Don't count on the PR to come in a month. I've been waiting for my wife's to arrive and still nothing 2 months after. Again it's very inconsistent with the timelines that they provide. With the Syrian refugees in the country, that timeline I'm sure is not relevant anymore since they have to...

Don't count on consistent system updates... for some it is instant and for some, like me, took over until decision made to state my file is in process since mid May. You will eventually get and AOR2 from the Warsaw office... mine took about a month after it was transferred. Sometimes it's a...

Truthfully 8 months is 8 months too long, but compare to the 18 months now, it's fantastic timeline. :) I'm glad thing have worked out since you were extremely worried. It was just odd that both of us applied literally days apart and the end result wasn't identical. Happy reunion :)

You can apply for the Health Card on day 1 if you choose to (though you need some documentation that it doesn't allow you; i.e. a monthly mailed bank statement to show residency in Ontario) and you receive the card 4-6 weeks after applying. However, you are not eligible to use the health card...

I got my wife health insurance for emergency purposes. costing about $90 a month for 3 months... I think it's worth it since a hospital bill and a few tests can run you at least $2000 - $5000 dollars. I know someone with $4000 bill when their spouse got sick and had to be taken to the hospital...

No, piece of mind really... but, i'm surprised, because most insurance companies do not insure a person if he/she doesn't have OHIP... are you sure that's the case at your work? I would double check. I'm very impressed if they insured him without OHIP.
