    Renting a house before moving

I've just arrived in Edmonton. I'm airbnbing for a few months and I've found that it is a nightmare for things like registering for healthcare and changing to a Canadian driving licence. I've therefore started contacting some ads for leases. I don't have a credit history yet (you can't use the...

    Crossing Canada-US border with CoPR

Stopping to confirm is more for my peace of mind, since I cannot find anything official which states the rule. I want to have an officer I can reference.

    Crossing Canada-US border with CoPR

I know this question has been asked several times and the general consensus is that you can cross the Canada-US land border in a private vehicle with just your passport and CoPR. But I wanted to find something official I could refer to if I encountered any difficulties when returning to Canada...

Calgary Landing Experience - December 2019

Thought I would briefly share my landing experience yesterday. Slightly different from what I expected compared to other landing reports so would be interested to hear any thoughts. I flew into YYC from London Gatwick on 31 December. I wanted to start the new year as a PR! I was in premium...

Landing in Canada - no goods to follow

Hi all I'm finally landing as a new PR next week! :) I have prepared my goods accompanying list but I have no goods to follow. I'm starting my life again and have sold most of my possessions. Is this likely to be an issue? Do I still need to prepare a goods to follow list and just state...

Visiting the US before PR card

I'm a UK passport holder so I have a ETA in order to land in Canada. As far as an airline is concerned, isn't my ETA the important thing to check?

Visiting the US before PR card

Thanks. So basically I'd need to return to Canada by road? Is there any chance of being denied entry because I dont' have a PR card?

Visiting the US before PR card

I'm landing in Canada for the first time in January. I have a couple of weeks before I start my job and I'd like to visit a friend in the US for a few days before starting. Am I right in thinking that I can't do this until I actually have a PR card? It will only be for 3 or 4 days.

Can I give AirBnB address for health card and driving license

I know this thread is old, but I'm facing this same issue. I have an Airbnb for a few months so I cannot provide a lease agreement. But I notice that one of the alternatives is a Canadian driving licence, and to get a licence you only need to show a bank statement. I think (although I don't know...

Help with first steps after landing - drivers licence

Thanks. Think that's what I'll need to do. I'll ask the bank to send some correspondence asap and hopefully will get some correspondence within a couple of weeks.

Help with first steps after landing - drivers licence

What proof did you manage to acquire in 2 weeks in order to exchange your licence? Was it a utility bill / bank statement/ etc?

Help with first steps after landing - drivers licence

Thanks, but my question was more around the practicalities of getting the required ID, and how quickly people have managed to do this after landing.

Help with first steps after landing - drivers licence

Hi all I'll be landing in Calgary in January. I will have a rental for a couple of weeks but I want to buy a car as soon as I can. In order to do that I understand I first need to swap my UK licence for an Alberta licence. In order to get an Alberta licence I need the following: - My UK...

    Scotiabank StartRight

I'm moving to Canada in January and I was going to wire transfer funds to a new Scotiabank account prior to arrival as they say that this is a good way to show POF if asked on landing. Has anyone recently done this, and can advise on the process? I have provided them my CoPR number and they...

I got PPR through a letter in my account. I don't know what the email says, but just follow that.

"Ready for visa email" for someone who doesn't need to submit passport

You need to include a self-addressed a4 envelope with your documents when sending to London VO. Don't put a stamp on it. Within around 30 days you will receive your CoPR by special delivery using your return envelope. London VO add and pay for the special delivery label.

Is a professional accounting degree mandatory to apply under NOC 1111

Provided that your duties match the duties listed under the NOC, you don't need an accounting degree. I have successfully applied under NOC1111 without an accounting qualification. I explained in my letter of explanation that an accounting qualification is not mandatory for the work I do. I...

"Ready for visa email" for someone who doesn't need to submit passport

As above, submit everything to London by post instead of uploading. It is common for there not to be any uploading options. I would also send a letter to the London email address provided in the ready for visa email to let them know that you are doing this (although it shouldn't strictly be...

    Long time waiting...

GCMS notes will tell you where your application stands. I used applyGCMS. You should get notes in around 30 days.

    Applicants from Europe and USA

Thanks, I picked up my CoPR from the PO this morning!! The PPR said to not put a special delivery label on the return envelope so I didn't. But Canada House returned it special delivery. Redirected to my new address. I haven't been able to stop looking at it all morning :) Literally years of...
