Getting taxes in order before applying for PR

I can't tell you if it's always the case but when my husband sponsored me he was 1 or 2 years behind filing his taxes because he was working out a dispute. It didn't seem to have any affect on our application.

    Canadian/American living on the border.

My husband and I are also an American/Canadian border couple. I received my PR a couple of years ago now but before we were married I was crossing the border close to everyday for work and just as Scylla said I eventually began to have problems at the border entering Canada. However, after we...

Cancelled passport with a valid visitor Visa, can I travel to Canada?

I had a similar situation to yours... When I was in process of obtaining my PR I had a visitor record issued in my passport. I too changed my name because of marriage and was able to travel to both passports (my new one with new name and my cancelled one with maiden name and visitor record)...

    Spousal sponsorship

As much as I am not proud of it I had overlap with my previous marriage and my relationship with my now husband. (and my now husband also had overlap with his previous marriage...) It didn't seem to raise any flags in our case. Best of luck.

    Refugee new judge assignment

I have a friend who is in Canada waiting to hear about his refugee immigration claim. He was initially given a date of last October when it would be deadline when he would hear about his case. A couple of weeks before that deadline he was notified that the judge who was to be residing on his...

Coming through US/CAN land crossing - after wedding / before app submitted

I'm not saying you will encounter the same as I but I was able was able to cross into Canada to stay with my husband after we married. We also crossed at a land border and I had our marriage license (not an official one since those take time to receive but the non official one given to us after...

    OHIP Card

You can apply anytime after you land if you start residing in Ontario at that time, I applied a few days after landing. But you won't receive your card until you near the 3 month mark and your coverage won't start until then.

Dual Intent in Practice: Commuting to the US?

I had a similar situation while my application processed. I worked in the states and husband lives in Canada on a border city so I would cross the border daily during the week for work. I was given a Visitor Record presumably to make my border crossings easier. Technically I could have been...

Visiting girlfriend on a regular basis

You won't be able to work out of the Montreal office without a work permit. My husband works for a company which has an office in Detroit and an office in Montreal. Several times employees from the Detroit office heading to the Montreal office for a few days have been turned around at the...

How can he move and live in Canada while awaiting approval?

When my application was pending I had a visitor record. I lived with my husband and commuted to work everyday in Detroit. I even told CBSA I was living in Windsor waiting for my PR application to be completed when they asked...I would have used different language in retrospect but at the time...

    OHIP Card

Hi, I signed up for OHIP coverage a few days after landing. My three month wait period is almost up but I have yet to receive my OHIP card in the mail. Is this normal or should I contact someone? Any other new Ontario PR's out there that recently received their OHIP card?

    Length of Relationship meaning

I had a quite similar situation. My now husband and I started seeing each while he was separated from his ex. As it worked out his divorce was finalized and we got married the very next day...so we used the date that he and his ex separated rather than the date of the divorce for our...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

Just to add more about Nexus. If you have a Nexus card but have been flagged by CBSA (which your husband sounds like he may have been?) it will show up on the border guard's screen when you scan your card. So it won't necessarily be the "easy" Nexus crossing that many have. So another...

    Pet in Canada before landing?

I think that would be a good way to do it just so it doesn't look like you are coming to "live" in Canada...

    Pet in Canada before landing?

So to finish my thought in my experience I wouldn't see why you couldn't bring your cat, esp. with the proof of rabies shots but my only concern would be if they suspected you of coming to Canada to "live" rather than just "visit."
