    Change of address?

I obtained permanent residency last summer via spousal sponsorship, and I have a 2 year condition on it. We recently bought a home and just moved. Am I supposed to contact someone to report the new address for my PR records? If so, to whom/website? Thanks!

What if my spouse died while I was still on Condition 51?

Thank you for your reply. That makes sense.

What if my spouse died while I was still on Condition 51?

We were just wondering what would happen? I got my PR 12 months ago, so we still have another 12 months to go to satisfy the condition. I know it's a morbid thought, but what would happen if my spouse died before the 2 year period? Would I have to go back to my country (US) to live? BTW, my...

Do I need a piece of confirmation paper for PR in my passport?

They attached a piece of paper called Confirmation of Permanent Residency in my passport when I landed (It says it's not for travel). I already have a PR card. Am I supposed to keep this in my passport or I can detach it now since I have a formal PR card? Thank you!

Possible to build Canadian credit without SIN#?

The maze, I don't know why some of the people here are saying you cannot get a credit card. I have gotten a credit card from TD Bank with no SIN#. You do need a Canadian address to do it however. I decided to do this before I moved over in an attempt to build credit history before I arrived. (I...

How much should we have in savings, realistically?

I would want minimum of $1000 per month budgeted (not including rent), assuming I would be using public transportation. Remember, most places ask for the first month rent and security deposit (usually another month rent) and some places the last month rent also, so you need to add all that to...

Better Not To Export old Cars from US to CANADA

Wow, my experience was much better than yours. I imported my 2004 Honda Accord - no problem whatsoever, but this was in Ontario. Maybe my car was in a better condition than yours? Or maybe you had a very picky inspector, I don't know, but the only thing I had to get done was the daytime running...

Applying for NEXUS card with CoPR only (no PR Card yet)

?? You can apply for NEXUS card online without PR or CoPR. Anybody who wants to go through customs (US citizen or Canadian citizen) can apply for it. I did apply months before my PR or CoPR came through. Make sure and apply for "NEXUS only" instead of "Global entry". NEXUS only gives you both...

Driver's License and Insurance in Ontario

I am not sure if my agent would be the best bet since she is local to me (Kitchener). What I did was google "Allstate Kitchener" and called the local number that came up. I had someone else initially, but she left the company and I ended up with my new agent, Sarah. I will PM the info just in...

Landed on June 29th 2015 -- PR Card Still Waiting

I gotta take back what I said. I think PR card processing time varies greatly depending upon what, I don't know. I just got mine today - It took only 71 days. I landed at Lewiston-Queenston bridge in NY if that makes any difference...

Driver's License and Insurance in Ontario

Good list, swestenzweig! Sorry to hear you had a hard time getting a good (cheap) auto insurance for your car. For myself, I went with Allstate. I was with Allstate until 1997 to 2007 in the US, so that helped, I think. They asked me who my agent was in California and I believe they contacted...

Landed on June 29th 2015 -- PR Card Still Waiting

There is a thread I read a few days ago on Family Sponsorship Forum of this site saying it is taking about 100 days now. I would probably just wait my 100 days or so. (I landed on July 7th.) Here, I found it for you... :)...

Questions on importing a car into Canada

No duty, no tax. They said no need for me since I am a landed immigrant. I just paid RIV fee online and emailed them the recall info I got from Honda website.

Questions on importing a car into Canada

Thank you for your post, Aquakitty. I went to the border and did the export, import and then came right back to the US side. (They opened a little gate for me to come right back in.) It was a breeze. They gave me a sheet explaining how to pay the fee via RIV.

Questions on importing a car into Canada

Do you submit Form 1 and make the payment when you import you car, or before you import the car, or after you import the car? It looks like you can fill out the form online and make the payment, but I wasn't sure if I could do that before I get to the border to do the import, or only when I get...
