your passport must be valid for atleast 8 months from the date of issue of visa.. As Scorpio1641 mentioned, they cant issue a student visa beyond the date of your passport validity. and if they issue a study permit of less than 8 months, u MAY not have the working rights etc etc..

u cant apply for study permit IN canada. u can only extend it. what u can do is apply online at LA visa office.
