We have a CIC office here in Edmonton where we are. My husband has been here for a couple of months on a US passport as a visitor. I'll call after Christmas to ensure they will accept his passport stamp as a visitor document. Would be definitely cheaper and easier than flying out and back in!

Ya, the address to send the new photos to is an "urgent" mailroom. So it should get opened and passed along quite quickly. We got our photo request email on December 15 early morning and sent the photos in overnight that same day. Will keep u all posted on how long it takes from photo arrival...

New photo requirements are aligned with Canadian passport photos.

When our eCAS changed to Decision Made, they emailed us to send new photos.

Sounds like they just want more evidence. The sooner you send it in and they receive it, the sooner they can move forward with your case. Best of luck.
