    Inquiry about rumors from Quebec

If it is any help: I got PR as a provincial nominee in Alberta, and after a year there I moved to Quebec. I am a citizen now.

    Contacting MP for urgent oath

You're right, I've just seen the provision you mention under "Postdoctoral research location". Thanks for the clarification! In my experience, CIC's citizenship criteria are naturally unfriendly with the typical academic career (which may include frequent travel to conferences out of Canada...

    Contacting MP for urgent oath

Dear tripless, I've checked in http://www.frqnt.gouv.qc.ca/en/bourses-et-subventions/consulter-les-programmes-remplir-une-demande/bourse?id=t0e0ormq1432652171008 and you can still apply to the fellowship if you're a PR.

Forum experts please...what is "Leave Application"?

Hi, I'm not expert. I've just found this. http://cas-ncr-nter03.cas-satj.gc.ca/portal/page/portal/fc_cf_en/Litigants/Glossary#letterl http://cas-ncr-nter03.cas-satj.gc.ca/portal/page/portal/fc_cf_en/ApplicationIMM It looks like the "leave application" is the first legal step before another...

New Canadian Citizen -US travel (have valid I94)

I never had this particular issue because I always returned the I-94 upon leaving the US. Sometimes there was no one in the US to return the I-94 to and I would return it to Canadian authorities as soon as I reached Canada. No one questioned anything when I started entering the US with the...

Did not declare my 3rd child even though we were Permanent Residents of Canada.

I don't understand the discussion about declaring children in the citizenship application. I've looked at the application I filled back in 2011 and I didn't declare my Canadian son when I applied, there was no place to declare children in the form! I didn't declare my second son when he was...

Family oath, kids visiting grandparents in US?

I do see the point of the question. First, I don't know if there is a rule/requirement that everybody becoming Canadian has to be in Canada. From the practical point of view, this must be considered: at the ceremony, you have to surrender the PR card of everybody who becomes Canadian. You must...

    How to correct citizenship certificate

Mine is surname(s) = z Given name = x y and no one ever complained. All my documents show either that or x = first name y = middle name z = last name

    How to correct citizenship certificate

I think from the strictly legal point of view you're OK (but of course, I'm just an ordinary person, not a legal expert). Do you have any idea if the Passport Canada employee spoke Spanish? I can see why some people from certain Spanish speaking countries would say that Velez shouldn't be a...

    How to correct citizenship certificate

To clarify. Suppose that you have to renew your passport from your original country: what do you put in the form as your last name?

    How to correct citizenship certificate

I think this depends on how you use your name and how it looks in your passport from your original country. You want all your documents to say the same. Did you also change your name in your country of origin? Did you change your name after applying for citizenship? As an aside note, if you...

    How to correct citizenship certificate

My citizenship certificate also looks like that, in the sense that my info is First name: A Middle name: B Last name: C And the certificate says: Family name: C Given name(s): A B This didn't poss any problem, in fact, there is no other place to put B. I don't see what you need to...

Did the oath today in both English AND French!

What do you mean by that? Did they tell everybody to do the oath in both languages? I did the oath in Montreal a couple of months ago and we were specifically told that we could choose a language or do it in both languages. I did the oath in both languages, but not because I had to do it. I...

    After Oath....

They give you the words written, so there is no need for you to memorize anything! (But of course, you may want to look at it beforehand and make sure you understand what you'll be saying!) I haven't used my passport yet :) My first destination will be the US, I travel fairly often for work.

    After Oath....

In my ceremony, the answer to both your questions is yes. I'm not sure how efficient the CIC people were at checking the crowd (to be honest, it seems to depend on whether you're sitting in the middle of the row or in some corner), but they did walk around during the oath. I was sitting in a...

    After Oath....

I read about that too. In my ceremony they stressed several times that we had to recite the oath and they had CIC people walking around during the oath who where supposedly making sure that everyone of us was reciting the oath. If you follow the instructions you won't have anything to worry about.

    After Oath....

Mmm... It didn't occur to me to notify service Quebec of my citizenship. But I think the fact that the info reached elections Quebec should be enough (they are connected to the RAMQ, and I guess that's all that matters). Did anyone here contact service Quebec to notify them of the citizenship...

    After Oath....

I've just got confirmation that I'm registered in the permanent electors list of Quebec (about 6 weeks after my oath). I didn't do anything other than choosing the option for CIC to update my information with elections in my citizenship application. It's interesting that I still don't show...

why the rush for citizenship... PR is the same thing guys!

For me the most important point of Canadian citizenship is the sense of belonging and the right of vote. That said, a considerably smaller treat that no one has mentioned in this thread is that as a PR you're more in the hands of CIC/government regarding changes in rules, regulations, etc...
