I think you proceed with this passport that you have handy, still it has 2 years time, when got your visa and you are in Canada, you can renew your passport through your country embassy in canada. don't delay to send your passport, secure your visa, other things can be done later.

Dear Jaaz, You can go to any VAC for your biometrics, but you should take your passport, Letter of instruction for Biometric that is all i think. Best of luck
