    Dual Citizenship- form IMM0008

Ok thanks. I will definitely call that paralegal and ask her about the inconstancies in processing times from what she told me and what people are reporting here!

    Dual Citizenship- form IMM0008

Thanks that good news! How did you get that information about the real processing times? From the threads in this forum? Thanks

    Dual Citizenship- form IMM0008

Has Ottawa always been the processing center for USA applications? On that CIC link, it shows that Ottawa processing times are 16 months, still a BIG difference from what people are saying in this forum. So in fact, if I was to apply outland from New York (in August 2015) it would only take 5...

    Dual Citizenship- form IMM0008

Ok thank you for your concern. The lady I met with was actually a PARALEGAL at the VisaPlace office in Toronto. I definitely agree that it would make more sense to apply from USA rather than France. However, I found this link on the CIC and it reinforces what she said about the processing...

    Dual Citizenship- form IMM0008

Hello all, I have both US and French passports, and according to a Toronto lawyer I just saw today, I can use my French passport to complete my Outland application because it will take much less time than from the US. She said that US outland applications are now taking about 33 months?!?! And...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

Only 5-6 months!! That's a motivational right there! The thing is that I was willing to wait the 1.5 year as Common Law sponsoree, as long as I can study on student permit during the waiting period. But to make matters even more complicated- CIC changed its student permit laws as of June 2014...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

My bf is Canadian and I am from the US. We are hesitating between doing a common law sponsorship or just getting married to maybe ease the process of immigrating. We have been together for 7 years, but ideally we would have waited for things to stabilize in both our families (other siblings...

Thank you so much for clarifying that!

    Spousal sponsorship

Thank you so much! For proof/ evidence of common law, the statutory form asks if we have proof such as names on lease, joint bank accounts and life insurance beneficiaries. We have been cohabiting since 2011, but my name has not always been on the lease, and we never joined our accounts...

    Spousal sponsorship

Hi rhcohen, One more question. I will- as the basis of my immigration Canada- be considered Common Law with my Canadian bf. And we did combine all of our belongings, and mutually pay for our living items (i.e. Rent, utility bills, furniture, etc). Now, how can i be considered an outland...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

Hi Alurra71, I did not see anywhere that to be considered Common Law I had to live 365 consecutive days with my partner. However this is I read on this website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=346&t=14 "What does the Government of Canada consider to be a common-law...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

My Canadian boyfriend and I are living together (well, I am on a Tourist Visa each time I enter Canada from the US; I do spend more time in Canada, though). Does the fact that we are "common law partners" (living under the same roof in Canada) disqualify us for Outland application? If I apply...

    Spousal sponsorship

Hi Rhcohen2014, I am just curious. The basis of my application to be sponsored by my partner under the Family Class Sponsorship is "Common Law"; thus residing together for minimum 1 year consecutively. Then, how can I accomplish this status if i am not allowed to live in Canada? I was told by...

    Common law sponsorship INLAND

I am a US citizen living with my Canadian boyfriend in Toronto. He is Canadian and I have a tourist visa which is always renewed because I constantly cross the border back to the US. I was told that I can apply for Canadian immigration through Family Class Sponsorship, ONLY after having...

    Spousal sponsorship

Well when I come in each time, I tell the officer that I live in Canada with my boyfriend, and they still let me in, no questions asked. I thought that I was allowed to live in Canada as long as I did not overstay my visitor's visa- and how else am I supposed to apply for Canadian immigration...

    Spousal sponsorship

Hi Leon, You said we can choose between Outland and Inland applications. I am a US citizen living in Toronto with my Canadian boyfriend, and I cross the border every week to work in the US. A year from today, we will officially be "common law" partners, and will start our application for...

Sponsorship of a Conjugal Partner living outside Canada

Ok. We will need to focus on becoming Common Law partners and fill out form IMM 5409, before proceeding to the immigration application. Thank you!

Sponsorship of a Conjugal Partner living outside Canada

So I can apply to be the "Common Law partner" of my boyfriend now, although I have not legally immigrated to Canada? (I will be on a visitor's visa, and will continue working in the US.) And a year from this application, we will be able to proceed to the Sponsorship/Immigration application...

Sponsorship of a Conjugal Partner living outside Canada

This clause seems to say two things at once: " 5.45. What is a conjugal partner? [...] In the immigration context, there are some exceptional circumstances where a Canadian is in a conjugal relationship with a foreign national partner and would ordinarily sponsor that person as a common-law...

Sponsorship of a Conjugal Partner living outside Canada

Hi everybody, I am starting the application to get sponsored to Canada by my Canadian boyfriend using the conjugal sponsorship application. I am a US citizen and resident; I am "single" and so is my boyfriend (no kids, never been married). The application is just for me (no other family member...
