    Adjusting to life in Canada..

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! I've told him that it's a pretty big thing to move half way across the world to a brand new country, and that I think it'll get better/easier with time. I just don't want him to get discouraged in the meantime :) I also think it's probably better if he...

    Adjusting to life in Canada..

He's not working yet, and I think this is part of the problem. He's going to start working soon, but from home. I know he likes all my friends and generally has fun with them, and I've been trying to encourage him to go out with them without me. I know it's hard, though, since he feels like...

    Adjusting to life in Canada..

Hello, So my husband and I arrived in Canada in December and I have to say it’s been hard! I’d been living outside the country for a while, and it’s the first time for my husband in Canada. He’s been feeling really frustrated lately due to feeling sort of left out in social situations. He...

    MARCH 2014 OUTLAND APPLICANTS

We waited 2 months before I finally called them and was told they "didn't have a valid address on file." We gave them our new address, and my husband has his card now! :)

Question on health care coverage once you land

Can't comment on employer specific extended health care, but we signed my husband up for Alberta Health care days after he landed. No waiting period whatsoever. That seemed to be because I was "adding" him onto my Alberta Health as my husband. As mentioned by canuck_in_uk, though, different...

Amman - Spousal Since January 2012 or Late 2010

Hello! Sorry for the very late reply! My husband actually sent his passport to the VAC in Beirut, not in Amman. From there he got it back within a couple days. Good luck :)

    MARCH 2014 OUTLAND APPLICANTS

That does seem weird. I remember calling the CIC hotline a long time ago asking about this - if we had to do an interview, if it would be in the same country as the VO (not possible for us). They said it could be done in another country so long as there's an embassy there! I would send an...

    MARCH 2014 OUTLAND APPLICANTS

We had a friend ask for us while we were still in Alberta.. They told him since my husband has had his license since 2008 he'll be able to go straight on to the full license road test. There are some countries, though, that do have reciprocal licensing arrangements. Where are you from?

    MARCH 2014 OUTLAND APPLICANTS

We're in Alberta, and they told my husband (who also has an international license) he'd have to do the knowledge test, then submit his license, wait 2 weeks THEN do the road test. In BC apparently he can just go straight to the road test for the full license.

Also - on the topic of SINs, am I correct that all my husband needs to do is take his passport & confirmation of permanent residence to a Canada service building and they'll give him a SIN right away?

Proof of sponsor's intent of returning to Canada

Hello! Just chiming in! I am also living outside of Canada with my husband (I am the sponsor) and we included the following: - a notarized letter from my father saying he's expecting us, that we'll be staying with him when we first arrive, plus that he'll be financially responsible for us upon...

    Baggage allowance?

Thanks! We booked our kitties on the flight, and we were told by Lufthansa and Air Canada we only pay the fee for them once.. so I'm hoping it's the same for baggage.

    Baggage allowance?

Hey all! We are flying to Canada next month, and I have a question about baggage allowance. Obviously most airlines offer 1-2 bag(s) free, then excess baggage at a cost. We're flying Lufthansa, then Air Canada. We're happy to pay for the extra luggage (it costs less than shipping it!) but we're...
