    Canadian Consulate NYC-be careful!

My experience is similar. They emailed to me a Word document about what items needed to be submitted with my application. Two weeks after submitting documentation on the checklist they provided to me, my packet was returned because it was missing 4 documents! This office has been the epitome...

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

I am in the US and am a US citizen. My situation was different from yours, although it was just as inefficient and messed up. I received notification via email that my application was approved, and all I need to do is to go to a border crossing to get the paperwork. As a US citizen, in...

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

I don't know the answer to your question. I followed CIC's advice and applied at the border, but the border agent didn't want to do it, and told me to go through the Consulate in New York. I'm pretty sure that if you're in Canada already, you must apply through CIC in Vegreville.

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

Received today an email from Consulate. Work Permit was approved. I need to take the letter that was attached to a border crossing and the permit will be issued there. Application received on April 1, 2013 Approved letter sent/received on July 26, 2013. Thank God! But what a rough and...

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

I've emailed Minister Keeney to no avail, but here's his email: Minister@cic.gc.ca I'd say most of these applications are straight-forward. If one has all the required documentation, then it should be processed within the time frame. If I were a student going to a Canadian university, and...

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

Forgot the "best" part of the border agent. She told me to sign an application, certifying under oath and criminal penalties, that I was residing in Canada, and mail it to the Vegerville office for processing. Had I done that, I would have committed a Canadian federal crime, which also alarmed...

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

My experience has been total incompetence and ineptitude. The CBSA home office gave me information how to do it at the border (as a US citizen seeking open work permit because my spouse is a student at a Canadian university), only to be met with obstinacy by a border agent, who dismissed...

    " MAY-JUNE-JULY-2013" Applicants Please Join

I started the process the first of March, with the hope of being reunited with my wife in May, by following CBSA guidelines for US citizens to go to the border. The border guard either did not want to do it, or was unaware of the procedure, even though I showed her information from her agency's...

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

This whole situation is beyond incompetence. It borders gross negligence, in my opinion.

    " MAY-JUNE-JULY-2013" Applicants Please Join

My application was received April 1, 2013, and it is still in queue for processing, according to the latest email update I received the week of July 1. The update I received at that time indicated they were finalizing applications received on March 25.

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

The sad thing is, from my interaction with them, is that they, themselves, are clueless as well.

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

I checked on the status of my application yesterday, and got a response today. They are currently finalizing applications received on March 18, 2013. (NY Consulate)

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

I received another email today. They are working on applications submitted on March 5. This whole process has just been so unorganized on CIC's end. Differing information from the same agency for requirements. Just pathetic. I thought Canada was better than this.

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

And received another email about an hour ago from NY Consulate...says I have no file on record. It's as if the inmates have taken over the asylum and are running it. Epitome of incompetence, disorganization, and inefficiency.

Work Permit Applications at NYC for 2013

This whole Canadian immigration system is the epitome of inefficiency and incompetence. My wife is a student in Canada, and, though the procedure appears simple to get an open work permit, it is not. The university and CIC informed my wife that since I am a citizen of the US, I should go to...
