Thanks for sharing the info, Dhaka2014. You are right! Only hand written passports can be renewed. I have just talked to someone in the passport office and he confirmed this as well. MRP passports need to be reissued (passport number will be changed in this case).

I think you can wait until you receive AOR as if you have an MRP passport then your passport number will not be changed if you extend its validity.
