    General holiday pay in Alberta

I'm just wondering what exactly you're entitled to as an employee. I hear different things from different people. When I look at the employment standards, for when the holiday falls on a day you normally work, it says: Pay the employee an amount that is at least the average daily wage of the...

Bad news for TFW under food service processing their LMO

It looks like I'll definitely have to transition to the high wage stream in my field of study if I want to become a PR. My current job (food counter attendant) offered to apply for a supervisory position, but I've been working there for almost 13 months now. By the time that that would be...

    Moratorium on Food Service Sector

The part about shortening the time you can be in Canada to <4 years is a bit disconcerting. It's tight enough trying to get things done in 4 years. I'm a little apprehensive about tomorrow's press release.

Foreign Worker Re Entering Canada from Vacation

I just came back from a week long visit back home in the Netherlands. Landed in Calgary, went through the resident customs line (waaaay shorter lines!) and the very pleasant border security agent looked at my papers, asked what I bought for the declared $300 in gifts and that was that. Went from...

Bad news for TFW under food service processing their LMO

It definitely seems heavy handed in the way they have no empathy for the people already in the process of coming here. All these plans, funds spend and with no prior warning at all. Seems like the definition of knee-jerk to me. With all the negativity in the news over the last few weeks I...

How to satisfy visa officer you will leave Canada?

Just answer all the questions truthfully at the PoE and bring all your documents. I think they are pretty good at reading people. What you wrote was pretty much me except I'm at the other end of 20. No problems getting my work permit. Some questions I got were: - Why do you want to work for...

What are the survival jobs in Canada that can be found at first?

Took me 5 months to get a job as a food counter attendant. Currently getting +/- $1800/month. It allows me to pay the bills while I find something within my field of study. Perseverance is everything.

Any advice for foreign worker (Open LMO) recruitment.

Broaden your search as well. Go for jobs that might not be in your field of interest. Better to come here and work while looking for something better. My current employer understands it is likely that I won't be working for them for a full 2 years. We made an agreement that I would stay on till...

Will I need a police certificate for the port of entry?

Coming from the Netherlands I didn't need one. They never asked for one during the interview either.

Ive been here for 2.5 years, I really don't want to go back to my country. Help

You left it pretty late in the game to start worrying about this. I'm not sure how it works when you are from a country where you need a visa as a visitor, but if you have enough saved up to support yourself for the amount of time you can stay here as a visitor I'd try getting an LMO in that...

    LMO query

The place I'm working at (tacotime) said it takes them up to 6 months to get an unnamed LMO.

Applying Study Visa again after Exclusion oder of 1 year; Which I complied.HELP

The end never justifies the means. It might seem that guy was lucky, but the risks aren't worth it. The best thing you can do is educate yourself thoroughly on all of your options and accept the fact that you might have to forgo studying here till you manage to get settled in. I do hope...

Applying Study Visa again after Exclusion oder of 1 year; Which I complied.HELP

Claiming ignorance of the law doesn't absolve you from the consequences of your actions. It happened and it'll be on your record. Keep trying and include all the information/reasons you are giving here. The choices you have made in the past definitely made it harder, but stay at it and who knows.

Visitor looking to stay in Canada.

I've come to Canada in september 2012 on a one way ticket, went home for 3 weeks over christmas, came back and (finally) found a job in may 2013. Flagpoled asap and had no troubles. They did ask a lot of very thorough questions, but if your honest and your story makes sense I believe they aren't...

    How do people do it?

I bought my mom a camera for the computer so we could skype. It really is a lot better when you can see each other. I've never had trouble with homesickness and travelling though. My worst experiences are with family members getting sick and/or passing away, I dread those moments. Do you go...

Broken hopes, voluntary departure and dire consequences.

Matters of the heart aside, my advice is to move on with your life and focus on the future. If you still want to come to Canada put your effort into finding a place of employment that can provide you with an LMO. It's not going to be easy and it might take a long time. Take care of yourself...

work permit at port of entry

The checklist is IMM5488E. It is advisable you complete IM1295 before you get there. One it says it as a requirement on the checklist and two the officer uses it to fill out whatever he fills out when he goes to make your work permit.

LMO processing times as of June 2013

It differs per province, so saying you have a restaurant job in Canada can have many different answers. Be a little more specific.
