Transiting through Canada as a US Green Card Holder With Lapsed Residency Obligation

Hi all, I'm looking at flights to my home country and the cheapest and shortest flight transits through Vancouver. From the CIC Website (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/eta/facts.html): Travelers who are exempt from the eTA requirement. U.S...

In breach of RO, going on vacation to Canada in May

I’ll be eligible to apply for US citizenship next month. I’m pretty well settled here and have no current plans to leave. Do I want to move and stay in Canada? At the moment, no… but I like having options. But if i lose my PR, it’s not the end of the world. My interest is if the border officials...

Oh, I understand that. It's just none of them have this particular use case that has relevance to my personal circumstance.

PR Obligations not met for 14 years

Whatever happens, could you report your experience? Even if it's anecdotal, I'd like to get some data points. Your case is probably going to be the most similar to mine if I ever decide to try to return to Canada. I'm 2 months away from being eligible to apply for US Citizenship.

Best Immigration Lawyer in Toronto Area

No, not at all. However, the original poster did ask for one in the GTA. Some people like the face to face interaction. Perhaps, he's one of them.

    Housing crisis in Canada

Live in the Northwest US. Super jealous that Lake Louise already has all of their ski runs open. My local ski area only has two ski runs open. It hasn't been a good start to the season.

    Housing crisis in Canada

Why wouldn't you? Sure it gets cold, but that just means a longer skiing/snowboarding season. Calgary is great if you love the outdoors.

Can I leave and come back after living in Canada as PR for about 1.5 years?

The CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) is as official as it gets. If you're unfamiliar with the CFR: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_of_Federal_Regulations Refer to here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-E/part-41/subpart-K/section-41.112#p-41.112(d)(1) and it's...

Can I leave and come back after living in Canada as PR for about 1.5 years?

The wording is awkward, but I think you are referring to this: Nonimmigrants who departed the United States for brief travel to Canada, Mexico, or an adjacent island (for F and J nonimmigrants) for thirty days or less; The F and J portion refers to the adjacent island. So nonimmigrants...

Can I leave and come back after living in Canada as PR for about 1.5 years?

Fair enough. On quoted statement above....Technically, you can actually return to the US with an expired H-1B visa as long as you visit Canada for less than 30 days (automatic revalidation rule). I took advantage of this rule when I did my landing as a Canadian PR several years back...

Can I leave and come back after living in Canada as PR for about 1.5 years?

No, the H1b part. Because he has a PR card, it's a given that he can enter Canada. I wasn't sure if "With H-1b you can cross into Canada as many times as you want, as long as you are allowed to." was independent of him carrying a PR card (or CoPR). Seems like his H-1B status is irrelevant on...

Have Canadian PR , never lived in Canada

While it is true that the US offers better economic opportunities, comparing green card holders and Canadian PRs is not quite comparing apples to apples. Unlike Canada, you cannot self-sponsor (for the most part) for an employment-based green card. There is no points system. You have to have...
