I agree, it doesn't make sense. I guess, now I have to go to vital statistics to change my driver license, and so on..

So I called IRCC, went to Service Canada and called Passport services. If I want to revert to my maiden name I need to apply for a new citizenship certificate first before applying for a Canadian Passport.

First, you need to apply for a new Canadian Citizneship Certificate that will have your new name on it. You'll need to send to IRCC your previous Canadian Citizenship along with the documents that prove your change of name.

You are exempt from the citizenship test, but you still have to meet with a citizenship officer for an interview/go over your original documents.

I think, if I apply for a passport first, and then change the name, then I can't use that passport anymore, because I am not that person with the name in the passport.

So, I did some research and apparently in my situation, if I want to change my last name, I need to do a name change on the provincial level first, then send my citizenship certificate with the name change documents to IRCC. They will issue me a new citizenship certificate with new name on it...

I didn't know you can do that. They sent me an email that said which documents to bring and told me to print it out and bring it with me.

But you already have received your test invite via email.

Call the CIC centre, they will give you all the details, and will send you an email which you can print and bring with you to the test. That what they told me to do. But, eventually, I received the test invite in the mailbox.
