    US outland applicants' thread :)

Ivan do you know what kind of proof you might need to file the FBAR? Hubby is making a decent amount of money and while I don't think we'll hit the $10K this year, we might next year based on your example above. How do we prove that on X day of X month he had a total of over $10K in the...

This sounds like a nightmare. So do you file yearly like a tax return if your accounts are over $10K, or do you just file when you actually hit $10K? How often do you have to update? Can you file it once and then not have to again, or do you have to file every time you hit a certain amount? Can...

We did that last year for his US tax return (he was a visitor in Canada so didn't need to file in Canada). Can you also do that for a US citizen working in Canada and have it filed in both Canada and the US?

    US outland applicants' thread :)

Yeah. Last year we didn't have to deal with it because he hadn't started working in Canada yet, but he just started working a couple weeks ago so I think we'll probably have them do it this year. I don't think I want to try to figure it out myself.

When I did my taxes at H&R Block last year, they told my husband that for them to file for him, the cost would START at $300 and only went up depending on how complicated it was. Pretty sure we're going to have to pony up and pay that this year :(

    February 2014 Outland Applications?

I think someone started a Landing thread a while ago, but I have no idea where it ended up. If you have any questions, go ahead and ask and I'll answer the best I can. Edited to add: found it! http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/landing-posts-t241167.0.html

    Spousal sponsorship

Once your husband becomes a PR, he can go apply for a SIN right away, provided he has the proper documentation (stamped/signed COPR or PR card, proof of address in Canada, passport, etc). He does not need to apply for a work permit if he is a PR, he just gets to start work like any normal Canadian.

Just a note that your medical is actually valid for a year from the time you had them, so you will not have to redo your medical if you did it within a year from when you submit. It's only the police check that needs to be less than 3 months old.

It takes however long for the CoPR to be mailed to you. Depending on where you are, it could be about a week or two.

Re: Change of Mailing Address Question Are you signing in with your UCI# or his? We used the same address for both of us since he was staying in Canada with me, so I don't know if they show different addresses on each UCI# but maybe you need to log in with your own? You have to do an online...

Medical insurance for traveling 6 months or more

If you are an Alberta resident, your partner may be covered by Alberta healthcare. I say maybe because I'm not sure if it also applies to commonlaw, but my husband was immediately eligible for Alberta healthcare as soon as we got married. That would cover basic doctor's appointments. You can...

I don't have answers for all of your questions but here's a bit of info. 1. If she wants her PR card to eventually be in her married name, and you have time, it is easier to apply for her passport with her new last name and then apply for PR. If she doesn't mind her PR card being in her maiden...

It depends what province you are in. If you are an Alberta resident, then as soon as you are married your wife would be able to get Alberta healthcare. If you are in other provinces, your wife might not be eligible until 3 months after she lands as a PR. Yes, it is usually advisable to get...

Re: Change of Mailing Address Question My husband and I moved partway through his application. We updated our address in eCAS and had no issues, the CoPR came to our new address.

    Conjugal Partner (M-F, opposite sex)

You don't necessarily have to go back to PH though, you can apply for her visa extension while still in Canada and she would only have to leave if that is denied. It's completely legal and there's less risk that way, you will know right away if she can stay long enough to qualify for common law...

Submitting application without medical exam receipt and police clearance

Just FYI, my husband and I sent in our application a few weeks before he had his medical. I just wrote on the checklist that his medical was already scheduled and put the date and we had no issues.
