I think the return time varies. I was reading some random posts on this topic and found someone send in July 1st week got back in some days. Some have sent in june 4th and havnt received it. So it all depends. I sent mine on 12th june and no reply yet. So have patience is all I can say..!

@ This is user, As far as I know they will ask for Valid Status in Canada for sure. If you're not PR they wont renew your PP for more than 1-2 years. My passport expired last year and they renewed for 1 yr which is validity of my WP.

FYA - I had same issues with my passport. Eventually I went once to CGI personally. Spoke to Tirth Singh the Consulate General and explained him the situation. As per their rules if they don't get clearance within 4 weeks. They render the decision and will give you clearance.
