This is common occurrence. What we did is to "approximate" the date and sent a letter explaining that. They have been dead for almost century in my case, I don't think CIC will worry much.
Good Luck!
Notice of assessment is always recommended. Show all income you have :)
You will certainly need your birth certificate to show that he is indeed your father.
You will also need insurance for 100K.
About the humour sense - do we have any other choice? (most healthy choice of what is available!)
As they say - when getting f**ed is inevitable - sit back, relax and enjoy! CIC decides what they are going to do - no point crying over spilled milk!
Guys, Do I have to take a notary affidavit along with Marriage certificate for OCI? Neither our passports has each other's names on it, nor it is "apostiled" by MOIA-New Delhi.

1. Be there at the time that is listed - you don't have to be early - just on time is good enough.
2. Try and take only one guest as much as possible. Additional guest will be...

Good Luck!
PS: Don't ask about me, I applied 6 months before her - still waiting for test... it's all in the game :)

Insha'Allah. Good Luck!
