Landing - bringing in a car

Nobody really answers questions on this forum, do they?? I will give you my experience so far from living here in Canada from the last 9 months. We are also awaiting our PR through the PNP program. Our application was just submitted a few weeks ago though...so we have quite a while. The car...

Getting car loan or lease as temporary resident?

Has anyone been able to get a car loan or lease as a temp resident here in Canada? We are here under a work permit (in process of getting perm residency) and will be in need of a new car soon as we are turning in our lease back in the USA in a few months. I have read about a loan program...

    First time filing taxes BC

Thanks - I actually just found out that if you are filing for the first time you cannot telefile or efile. You have to mail it in. Now, do we have to report our income prior to moving to Canada for 2010? Obviously we did not have foreign income while living here in Canada, so I am assuming we...

Building credit history and getting your first car in Manitoba.

Has anyone tried to take over a car lease? Perhaps that might be a better option and easier to get approved for?

Building credit history and getting your first car in Manitoba.

Well, if they are only giving loans until one year after expiry...probably not going to bother. Work permit being renewed in July (can only renew it a year at a time) and we are in the process of doing our PR...which who knows how long that will take. Probably just wait until we get PR to apply...

    First time filing taxes BC

We arrived in BC last summer and will be filing our taxes here in Canada for the first time. Do most people hire someone to do the taxes for them the first time around? We are from the US and I normally do our taxes every year - I am wondering how hard it is to just do them ourselves here. What...

Building credit history and getting your first car in Manitoba.

I am assuming you guys were newly landed PR? I wonder if any of the dealerships allow you to finance a car if you are here on a work permit?? Did your husband finance through the dealership with Ford Motor Credit (if they have that here) or what finance company did they use? We just moved to...

Auto Insurance for Temp Resident Work Permit from USA

Hi - we are US citizens and taking our cars up to BC. We will be there on a work permit, so will not be "importing" our cars. Do we need to get Canadian auto insurance or will our US auto insurance be good there? Also, do we have to register our cars there too? I think I read somewhere that we...

B4 Form(s) for temporary worker - work permit?

Okay, I think I just found the form - "Temporary Admission Permit" where you list out the items you are taking and their values. However, I have read that a deposit may be required? If so, how much do they charge as a deposit to bring your stuff across?

B4 Form(s) for temporary worker - work permit?

My husband will be arriving first in BC (has work permit in hand and needs to start new job soon). Our household goods will be following at a later date via a moving company and I looked at the B4 forms and I am unsure which ones we need to fill out because it looks they are for PR applicants...

Renting and establishing credit in BC

Hi - we are relocating from the US to Vancouver soon (have a job there & work permit). We understand that our credit here in the US does not transfer over and we basically have to start from scratch. We are probably going to have to rent a place first before purchasing - how do most property...

Moving on work permit from USA to BC questions

Thanks - so does this mean I can't take my mattresses across the boarder then? I definitely do not want my furniture fumigated with chemicals...especially my bed that I sleep on! Since I am technically not importing - I wonder if this is still the case?

Moving on work permit from USA to BC questions

We are getting ready to move to BC from the US in the next 30 days or so. We have one financed car and one leased car - can anyone verify that because we will be there temporarily on a work permit, that they will be duty/tax free? Also, when moving all of our personal goods via a moving...

Open work permit eligible after appling for skilled worker?

Okay, thanks. I guess from what I read on another site it seemed like there was a certain point during the skilled worker app process that you are eligible to apply for an open work permit. I guess I am confused because when I researched the open work permit, it basically states if you are the...

Open work permit eligible after appling for skilled worker?

I read on another website that at a certain point or phase during your skilled worker application process, you can apply for an open work permit (basically making you eligible to go to Canada prior to full approval of your skilled worker application). Does anyone know about this? I can't seem to...
