Moving abroad after making citizenship application

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I am having trouble finding relevant threads on here. I am about to submit my citizenship application. I have 1260 basic residency days, and 1157 physical presence days as of when I did the online calculator about 1.5 weeks ago. Just this week I have been...

    Listing absences on Citizenship Application

Thanks for the tip about CBSA. Not exactly ideal, since I was hoping to get this done and out the door asap. Not looking forward to waiting around for a month to get their response. :( I don't think the I-94 travel history tip applies to me. I'm a US citizen, so we aren't issued I-94 documents...

    Listing absences on Citizenship Application

Hi everyone, I am finally getting around to my citizenship application, and am just now realizing that I made a huge error in not keeping track of my absences from Canada. Most of my absences in the past 4 years have been weekend trips to the US, and the Canadian border guards only stamped my...

There is no application to fill out on your part, at least I did not fill out any application. I went to the local Service Canada office the day after I landed, they took my information and input it into their system, I signed off on it, and they printed out my SIN. The only things given to me...

I had my medical exam done in Montreal 3 mths before I was able to send my application in, because I hadn't realized how long an FBI check would take. I had my fingerprints done the same week as my medical exam. I got PPR after my meds had expired, and thankfully they never requested a new...

I think it's really important, as you said, to double, triple and quadruple check this. It seems that each POE that does exports has a slightly different set of guidelines. Even within them you may get a different story. I know I called twice before going and one time was told the car had to be...

That's annoying. I had my license renewed in May 2010, but Quebec took my word for it that I'd had a license for the past 11 yrs. They didn't require any proof, and gave me a full license. It was one of the easier parts of this process.

Couldn't tell you, but since it requires more in depth research I can only assume it takes longer than the name check. Hopefully you'll get your PPR before you GCMS notes even come in, but if not I hope they give you a clearer picture of what's going on.

Don't know about POEs over there, but once you choose one make sure to call the American side of the POE and confirm their export procedures for your car. You have to export it before you can import it with you into Canada. Usually you have to either fax/send a copy of your title or bring your...

Has anyone sponsored a married filipina as common law spouse.

Common-law status is something that is recognized in Canada, and that is what matters to the CIC. The fact that the Philippines does not recognize an official common-law status has no bearing at all on immigration to Canada as a sponsored immigrant. If you have lived together for a year and can...

Oh cr*p nuggets. That's the same line of bull that they gave my MP all of last summer and fall. Have you gotten a copy of your GCMS notes recently? Unless they've decided to do one of those in-depth checks with INTERPOL on you, the RCMP check should be quick since all they do is check your name...

Congratulations Mark5! Though, I do feel a little bad for the other folks on the bus who had to wait for you. I hope they were patient!

March 10th: U.S. passport day with same-day passport renewal :-)

I don't know, mine definitely never even mentioned it. He only talked about health insurance and my SIN, which he made me special copies of my COPR for (which was rejected when I went for my SIN anyway, and I had to show the original). That's why I called to find out if I needed to register at...

Just a note, since I'm in the middle of car export/import myself. Make sure you double check with your American insurance company about whether your insurance will be valid after you import. My husband reminded me to call (I was in a rush to get it all done), and I found out that as soon as I do...

March 10th: U.S. passport day with same-day passport renewal :-)

I have to look into which will work out best for me. If it's cheaper than I'll probably just go through the Montreal office, even if it takes a few weeks. I was told that crossing the border back into the U.S. would be no problem even without my passport if I bring a copy of the data page, my...

March 10th: U.S. passport day with same-day passport renewal :-)

I just got off the phone with the RRQ (they manage the Quebec pension plan). The woman I spoke with updated my address and phone number to go with my social insurance number, but said they had no need to see any of my immigration paperwork. She said once I start working and my employer starts...

That's unfortunate that you took the time to explain that you had an amicable split, and now you're essentially a tenant in your ex's house because it made good financial sense for both of you and your ex isn't even in the country anyway. Hopefully it will be quickly and easily cleared up for you!

It sounds like they're just confused as to why you still own a house with your ex if you're trying to sponsor your spouse. I can only imagine how quickly they read through files, and how little time is probably spent analyzing them in any depth. On the surface it does seem odd, but once you...

    American Taxes

The IRS hotline is really quite helpful, especially the one specifically for expats (though sadly it's not toll free). The website as well, but it can take some digging. I called the expat hotline a couple of times last year for help and clarifications. I ended up filing jointly so that I could...
