Citizens of Convenience -- a new study

Not you, but whoever is obsessed with the coined "citizens of convenience". Obviously, it's a diversion created by the politicians to gain points and channel some dissatisfaction of the populace onto, instead of focusing on the real issues. "Citizens of convenience" is nothing compared to...

Citizens of Convenience -- a new study

Is there an actual study showing systematic damage from "citizens of convenience" anywhere? Please, post a reference, if there is. If highly skilled people can't find jobs and progress their careers here, why they would stay? I salute the ones for being capable to take care of themselves and...

    Citizenship test interview

I don't know about rules, but both ways of conduct were reported by people. I suspect one has to look up how it's going in one's local office to get a better picture of what's to expect.

Say 'No' to Citizenship changes which will mean 4 years wait to become Canadian

Yes, that won't fly because Canada is probably the last country left with such a short qualifying period for general naturalization. But causing more hurdles to people who are already working in Canada or have a Canadian degree doesn't make much sense, or does it??

Say 'No' to Citizenship changes which will mean 4 years wait to become Canadian

Why this premise? I don't know any other country that allows to apply and subsequently hands out citizenships only 3 years after stepping one's foot on the ground. In my opinion, worse that non-PR time won't count towards residence anymore-- a strike on work and study permit holders.

    New Rules for Citizenship

Agree, it's too harsh. Even European countries (UK, Ireland, etc.) usually count work/study before PR towards citizenship. Work permit holders are obliged to pay all the taxes including Employment Insurance tax, which they usually have a great difficulty to obtain when laid off and may be just...

    New Rules for Citizenship

Actually some good European countries (e.g. UK, Ireland, The Netherlands) count days spent studying/working towards residency for naturalization as full days, not even as half days like Canada does. Now Canada is going to throw out non-PR study/work time completely, which, I think, is too harsh.

    New Rules for Citizenship

I guess, to make it harder for stray students and workers, some of whom may be planning to leaving for "greener pastures" (e.g. the US, Hong Kong etc.) after getting Canadian passport just 2 years after acquiring PR status. 4 years as a PR requirement commands another level of commitment to this...

Advance thoughts on upcoming citizenship changes

Yes, not good news for student/work permit holders, it'll be much harder/longer for stray students or workers to obtain citizenship. I myself spent 5 years on various permits and then only 2 years as a PR before applying for citizenship. Won't be possible when amendments will become law.

    Montreal citizenship - any updates?

Thanks! I will, for sure. My ceremony will be in that "futuristic" 1960's hotel downtown which is very handy since I work in the building next to it. :) Can't wait till I'll hold a citizenship certificate. Hope you'll get your file processed quickly too. :)
