Well, it turns out my parents wanted to drive down to New York anyway and go shopping there, so we'll hitch a ride. Problem solved! :D

Thanks! I thought there were offices you could visit, but I guess we could make a trip out to the States. Is it also possible to go to the airport and get it done at the immigration office there? Or would that requiring literally landing there in an airplane?

Success! My girlfriend just got an email from Vienna this weekend! They told us they've sent us a letter with her Confirmation of Permanent Residency (there was never a PPR, I guess because she is from a visa-exempt country; interview was also apparently waived). Good thing too; her medicals...

    Medical Exam Validity

Hello there! So my German girlfriend's PR application has been going well, it seems. They requested proof of a medical examination a few weeks ago, which we had already provided; when I wrote back to them asking whether they wanted proof of the previous exam or a new exam, they answered saying...

    Common-law Application question (Evidence)

I think the important thing is that you document at least one year of shared assets and cohabitation, as well as an emotional bond and, preferably, proof that the relationship has been made public. So long as you have that - and it seems you do - you should be all right. My girlfriend and I...

    VIENNA OFFICE

What I wonder is what the "It could take 7 months, but you should hear from us in 3 months" means. Does that mean that if they just don't get to ours and three months are up, they'll just write to say "we aren't done yet"? Or does that mean that within 3 months, they'll have assessed our case...

Arriving in Canada before PR, what to tell Immigration?

Of course, yes - I assume there's an office in every major city, and we're just across the river from Ottawa, so that should be no trouble. I could mention that as well.

Arriving in Canada before PR, what to tell Immigration?

Okay - so we should say something like "We're here to visit my family for an extended period of time; she is also a Permanent Residency applicant, and if she obtains PR while we're here then we'll be staying?"

Arriving in Canada before PR, what to tell Immigration?

So my girlfriend and I are flying to Canada next week, to stay with my parents while we wait for her PR to be granted. She is from a visa-exempt country (Germany); our application has been sitting in Vienna for several weeks, and they told us we'd hear from them by October. We're not carrying...

Changing intended place of settlement to Québec? Trouble?

For that matter, would it really be that much of a hassle to get the CSQ? As I understand it, you aren't supposed to apply for it anyway until your sponsorship application was approved...

Changing intended place of settlement to Québec? Trouble?

Hm, while I see what you're getting at, I'd rather not do anything that would jeopardize our PR card. Then again, I have heard of people moving to somewhere in Ontario and then moving to Québec almost immediately afterwards without trouble, and AFAIK it's perfectly within the legal rights of a...

I'm sponsoring my girlfriend from Germany; my sponsorship was accepted in June and we got an notice of receipt from Vienna in July, but nothing since then, and the online system still tells us only that our application was received on Feb 29 (which is when it was received in Mississauga).

Changing intended place of settlement to Québec? Trouble?

So we've encountered something of a problem. My girlfriend and I originally planned to move to Vancouver soon after she got her Permanent Residency card, so I could study and she could work. We had some savings in the bank to help us establish ourselves there, of course. On our application...

    VIENNA OFFICE

Just a quick update for any interested; my girlfriend just received her AOR from Vienna, via e-mail. Our applications were originally destined for Berlin, but that's obviously changed; good to hear Vienna isn't terribly slow. We received our Stage 1 approval on June 14. Is there a Vienna...

Just today we got an AOR e-mail from Vienna. Later than we expected, but good to know it's arrived. I just hope there aren't any hiccups from this point on... we dragged out feet a bit with the application, and have only 4 months left till the medicals expire. Won't be the end of the world if...

Good to hear others are getting results as well! Also, yes, I got an e-mail from CIC - thankfully. Snail mail would have made me really impatient - but I've heard some people really do just have to wait for snail mail, so I'm sure that's responsible for some of the apparent delays.

OMG, we finally got an email! "This confirms that your application for permanent residence in Canada has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2012/02/29." No approval yet, but it's good to know that they received our application, and that we got a UCI. Can't login to...

98 days for us... The waiting is killing me. I just wish they'd confirm they received the application. I keep worrying they've lost it or they returned it and it never arrived, or arrived while we were away and the post office didn't leave a note (has happened once before). If they had...

Spousal Success Rates by Processing Centre

Hm... we would normally be going through Berlin (93%), but since that's closed, we'll be going through Vienna (85%). I can only hope that the differences are related to the applicant composition each office receives, and not the officers working there!
